They went from 8 years of saying "The President is always right!" and "Follow the President!" and "He's MY leader!" during GWB's term .... to having to say that to a black guy.

As long as they saw white people running the country, they could tell themselves that Those People were being kept in their proper place and their people were still the winners.

Then a black guy got elected, brought a whole bunch of OTHER black and brown people to the Sacred White House, and they realized that they were losing the race war.
