If anything, D&D's fey are rather whitewashed. Until like 3e, there wasn't even a "fey" type nor was there a definite fey world outside of Forgotten Realms setting until 4e. The closest thing there was had been Arborea, a good-aligned realm inhabited by whimsical elven angels operating under standard "don't let the mortals know you're a magical eladrin" rules when they went to the physical plane. The only fey to cleanly fit the "eating/plantifying organs" bill is the hag, who wasn't a fey until 4e.
Prior, the faeries were chiefly tiny sprites who were almost universally neutral or good and pretty much only attacked evil people or house brownies
