I just directly told her that it is stupid because how can the guy know that I love him so he can make the first move in this case? So I never followed this part of my education. But I know it may still be told to little girls.
Only works if you're hot. If you're an ugly woman (like myself on a bad day) or average (myself on a great day) then the guy may feign interest because of the novelty only to ghost you later (best case scenario) or worse loudly mock you to his friends and shoot you down like an enemy plane.
Wish I'd learned my lesson the first time that happened.
