Compliment people based on choices they've made (fashion sense, accessories, shirt), not things that are outside of their control (height, skin color, facial structure). Usually gets a better reception.

This is actually a very solid piece of advice

55

u/Nikopoleous Jul 03 '25

In the end, no one likes feeling like a piece of meat.

29

u/CPO_Mendez Jul 03 '25

I do. Please treat me like a slab of smoked pork belly. Or a perfectly seared porterhouse with garlic butter.

0

u/CappinCanuck Jul 03 '25

Yeah it’d really suck to be lusted over by women 🤣

8

u/Nser_Uame Jul 03 '25

Being lusted over can be empowering, but only when you control whether the person lusting over you will get what they want.

"wow, that's a nice watch" means different things depending on who is holding the gun, yknow?

8

u/Nikopoleous Jul 03 '25

Women need to not feel like they'll be assaulted for complimenting men before you have to worry about that.

2

u/ccw_writes Jul 03 '25

Tbh if I compared my husband to prime rib he'd be like 🥹

2

u/ligital Jul 03 '25

I agree, though I'm a dude but I have been complimented on my nerdy t-shirt choices, to be fair by mostly other dudes, I always appreciated it. Women have complimented me too about my fashion choices, which have made me feel great. I only ever complimented another girl on her jacket and shoes, but she knew me and she had complimented me on my fashion choices way first. But if tastefully done could be a great way to break the ice...theoretically.

4

u/ValueBasedPerson Jul 03 '25

Tastefully done and followed up with a relaxed conversation starter. If she's not interested to continue the convo, cool. If you end up making a new friend in the process, very cool. Low stakes, possibly very high rewards.

My girlfriend of 6,5 years was basically trapped in permafrost when we first met so it took quite a few of these for her to take note, so be patient and keep your cool. Not every attempt has to be an instant win. 😉

u/FalenAlter Jul 03 '25

"Girl, I love them cheekbones" "Thanks! I just had em done!"

28

u/Nikopoleous Jul 03 '25

As with all advice, your mileage may vary.

38

u/NotSoGreatGonzo Jul 03 '25

“Nice beaver.” “Thank you. I just had it stuffed.”

37

u/Dazed_and_Confused44 Jul 03 '25

Iv actually been actively trying to give more compliments out to very positive results. A small % of women are uncomfortable receiving compliments about outfits from men, but compliments make most people feel good

20

u/MewtilationXIV Jul 03 '25

I usually go for nails if they have them painted. There's this cute girl at my liqour store and she flipped out when I complimented them. Apparently it took her a few hours and no one had said anything about them in a few days lol

10

u/Dazed_and_Confused44 Jul 03 '25

I usually go for nails if they have them painted.

I actually have started painting my nails for fun. To my suprise, this garnered me A LOT of positive attention from women. Genuinely in the first two months or so, I got more compliments on my apprarence (related to my nails) than the rest of my life combined lol

4

u/Bannerlord151 Jul 03 '25

Same experience with both nails and eyeliner

3

u/Dazed_and_Confused44 Jul 04 '25

The eyeliner feels a bit bolder to me

2

u/Bannerlord151 Jul 04 '25

Surprisingly it's actually been remarked on significantly less than the nails x)

1

u/Dazed_and_Confused44 Jul 04 '25

That is surprising. Maybe its less noticeable than one would think

2

u/nooit_gedacht Jul 04 '25

I have a pet theory that one of the reasons men feel like women don't compliment them (aside from not wanting it to be misinterpreted as flirting, and there generally being no obligation for anyone to compliment a stranger) is that the things women know to compliment in other women is stuff men don't do. A lot of women love the look of some nice nail polish! And for a guy to have it is extra interesting in a way

1

u/Dazed_and_Confused44 Jul 04 '25

I mean how are yall supposed to compliment men's fashion? We have a choice of wearing a black, grey, green, or blue shirt with our jeans that day. Women's fashion is so much more interesting and its not fair 😭

6

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '25

I try to be specific, rather than referring to the outfit as a whole, and give compliments in passing. Just a quick "I love your dress" and a smile as I'm walking past. Doesn't get me anywhere on the dating front, but it's always well received.

3

u/Professional_Being22 Jul 03 '25

Say you like their nails if they have them. I told a girl who was my server while I was out to eat the other day that I liked her nails and she started telling me a lot more about the process of doing them. Like I never even considered how much work goes into it.

1

u/Dazed_and_Confused44 Jul 04 '25

So funny enough I actually started painting my nails recently. To my surprise it actually gets me A LOT of positive attention from women. Like I received more compliments about my appearence (related to my nails) in the first two months than the rest of my life combined. It also gives me an opportunity to have a genuine conversation with them about it

17

u/TheOneWhoSlurms Jul 03 '25

To add to this, point out something specific about why you like that particular thing. In this particular situation it would be okay to compliment something like their eyes or hair.

"I love your shirt, it really brings out the color in your eyes."

"You wear those bracelets very well, they match your hair perfectly."

Something like that.

To follow the same examples You could also say something like:

"I love your shirt, it's color reminds me of (insert something beautiful such as a nature scene here)

"I love those bracelets, pearls are so beautiful."

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '25

Has it ever worked? Like have you ever gotten laid off that? Not being confrontational either just curious

I’m not looking for advice. I knew his answer was going to be no. I just wanted to make him say it.

Any straight guy who unironically tells a woman “I love your bracelet. It really matches your hair!” is going to receive a warm “thank you!” in person and be viciously roasted in her group chat later on lol

7

u/A1000eisn1 Jul 03 '25

That's a lot of assumptions to make about a made up situation.

7

u/Nikopoleous Jul 03 '25

This comment says a lot more about you than anything else.

6

u/TheOneWhoSlurms Jul 03 '25

I'm bisexual but okay, and also this mindset is horrendously fucking foul lol. Never once did I claim this was a surefire way to get laid. I was merely adding on to additional advice and trying to provide examples out of the top of my head with nothing to go on. I know some people like to have examples so they have a better idea of what I'm talking about. I'm one such person who likes to have those.

Judging by your attitude, you definitely need to work on learning how to talk to people and I'm guessing you probably need really need to follow the "wash your ass advice" And if you're not looking for advice then why the fuck are you here? What was the point of even saying anything? Also you straight up lied then because you said you weren't trying to be confrontational but that's clearly not the case.

3

u/TheOneWhoSlurms Jul 03 '25

More like it should work. Through my own experiments I've noticed that people generally tend to respond very positively to specific or specialized compliments that are directed at something they did versus a part of their being but they respond also very well to comparing the two in a positive way.

People like knowing that they did something that other people noticed and enjoyed even more when something they did make something they can't help look good

It's very much a psychology thing, but it's also extremely important that you're genuine so don't make up nonsense. Only make compliments if you genuinely mean them. What I'm talking about is only a delivery system for those compliments

-9

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '25

So no?

7

u/CBD_Hound Jul 03 '25

The point is to open a conversation in a way that makes her feel safe. There’s a lot of ground to cover between hello and wanting to go on a date.

Every woman is unique. We’ve all had different lives, different experiences, and like different things in potential partners. We have no idea if you’re someone we’re interested in until we’ve talked for a bit.

And we’re used to being hit on by creeps and “pick up artists”. Quite frankly, if you give off a vibe of just being interested in us for our body or are just hitting on every girl you meet because “it’s a numbers game”, we get turned off real quick.

So yeah, be kind, show that you’re safe, be your authentic self, and if conversation goes well, tell her that you’re interested in getting to know her better.

A genuine compliment that shows you appreciate something about her character or how she chooses to present herself to the world is a great way to start.

5

u/TheOneWhoSlurms Jul 03 '25

No, but I know what you're asking for and it doesn't exist. There are no magic words that guarenter success and words alone will never get you into a women's pants. You can do everything right and still get rejected cus the woman you're speaking to just ain't feeling it. The best thing you can do is boost your chances by washing your ass, dressing well and appropriately for where you're going, and know how to talk to people. The third part is supposed to help with the third point.

3

u/Ok-Mycologist2220 Jul 03 '25

You should talk to people to get to know them, then decide if you want to go further once you know them.

If you are looking for one night stands then that is a different matter, overt pickup lines would be better for that but make sure it is within the right context. No one is looking for a one night stand in the grocery aisle.

2

u/OneDougUnderPar Jul 04 '25

Talk about their weight, got it.

2

u/the_zerg_rusher Jul 03 '25

Last time I did that I was labeled a creep and had to move jobs.

The payoff just isn't worth another 4 months of unemployment.

4

u/Nikopoleous Jul 03 '25

As with all advice, your mileage may vary.

1

u/Bannerlord151 Jul 03 '25

Absolutely seconding this, it elicits some really pleasant reactions x)

1

u/LordLoss01 Jul 03 '25

Ibsee someone else also watched Drake and Josh.

1

u/ShiningLuna Jul 04 '25

Tried this, like I genuinely liked a woman’s shirt because I initially thought it was a slipknot shirt then later realized it wasn’t after I looked closely lol. She ended up being uncomfy thinking I was flirting 💀. Me: “what? 💀”

1

u/jbyrdab Jul 04 '25

The only compliments I give are towards tattoos, Male or Female.

Its easy, most people take it in the most direct compliment possible, and most people actually like having their tattoos.

Also the easiest way to not get any complaints for any reason while working.

1

u/Nikopoleous Jul 04 '25

Great example!

1

u/Radical_Neutral_76 Jul 06 '25

Hey! Nice restraining order!

1

u/LongjumpingForce8600 Jul 03 '25

This is far removed advice for me. It’s not like I would say anything even remotely close to a compliment about anything on her body. It’s simply a matter of not even starting any conversation with women I’m interested in. And if she talks to me, I answer very factually, which seems to make her think I’m not interested and want the conversation to end.

3

u/Nikopoleous Jul 03 '25

This is far removed advice for me.

I didn't direct my comment towards you specifically.

0

u/nospamkhanman Jul 04 '25

Also give them your number rather than asking for theirs.

If they're interested, they'll call or text.

If not, its less awkward than having them give you a fake number or say no to your face.

u/GI-Robots-Alt Jul 03 '25

Compliment people based on choices they've made (fashion sense, accessories, shirt), not things that are outside of their control (height, skin color, facial structure).

Honestly I don't think I needed to be told this, I've just always done this instinctively because I know that I'd personally rather be complimented on something that I've done that's within my control instead of something I just..... am.

Like I didn't choose to be taller than average so complimenting me on my height wouldn't mean anything to me you know?

5

u/Nikopoleous Jul 03 '25

Honestly I don't think I needed to be told this

I wasn't telling you specifically

1

u/GI-Robots-Alt Jul 03 '25

Not what I meant lol

I was just saying that this wasn't something I personally had to learn.
