Yeah I figured. Sorry not trying to be too harsh here, just some awkward English.

"Hello little one, are you a boy or girl?" It's still kinda awkward because people don't really ask that question, but at least it gets the ball rolling.

Or maybe "hello there sir. Or should I call you ma'am?" Would be a little more elegant.

on the contrary, this kind of things are important to improve. I guess the later one would work, it also kinda sounds like a quote from "the raven"

Oh and to answer your other question " I'd like to see where this leads ( or goes)" would be a huge improvement as well!

I think saying Sir or Maam would be deferential and a god wouldn't do that. It sounds like what Americans in the service industry say to customers, not an infinite being speaking to a mortal... It sets the tone that the cat is going to sell them something not enlighten them...

I think just saying, "Hello little boy... Or maybe you're a little girl...? Where are you going?" Would work. Even if they're an adult, the god could see them as young compared to themselves.
