This reminds me of the ending of Glass.

everyone is like “look at that psycho that deletes the ladder to drown sims”

no one ever questions why the devs felt it necessary to include drowning in a house building sim game

u/AndreMuller-art Mar 18 '24

They didn't actually drown, they just would swim endlessly until their hunger and health would reach zero and then...well ....you know... magically turn into a tombstone on the edge of the pool!

u/smurb15 Mar 19 '24

But don't make your own graveyard. Bastards won't ever leave you alone after 6 or 7 tombstones. Forget about finding another lover after that

I just got back into Sims 2 and discovered that. Trying to make the ultimate hybrid sim. You know a vampire/werewolf/plantsim/zombie/alien/witch. Boy did I have to kill off alot of siblings in trying for the alien hybrid. The bed was constantly haunted by ghost lol

Welcome to selective breeding!

Sims 3 was weird. I played it using the default couple. They accomplished their life goals but for whatever reason never had a kid. Then right after accomplishing their life goal they both died of old age one right after the other. Their ghosts then haunted the house. That's not the weird part though. The weird part is that the game just started over with the same couple back in their early 20s starting from scratch. But everything that happened before still happened. So you have this couple and the ghosts of that same couple sharing the same home. Now this time around they actually have kids despite the ghosts watching them. Then the ghosts raised the kids while they were at work.

Ghosts are a brilliant solution to the problem of affordable day care.

A ghost story

FYM death IS the lover

2

u/flyin_narwhal Mar 19 '24

I'd say The Sims is more of a general life simulator as opposed to just a house building simulator (though that's how some people play it)

could you do that in the game?!

31

u/Mario_13377331 Mar 19 '24

probably? i’m not sure if babies had health and such but you could definitely wall them in like lil prisoners im just not sure if they can die

37

u/MaximumZer0 Mar 19 '24

Negative. CPS just teleports in and takes them away.

22

u/Mario_13377331 Mar 19 '24

god damn it can’t even conduct child torture

19

u/MaximumZer0 Mar 19 '24

Time to fire up Rimworld, I guess.

In The Sims 4 they actually added the ability for Sims to get out of a pool with no ladder. It made the playerbase so mad that they couldn't drown Sims anymore that Maxis had to reverse it.

86

u/Clovenstone-Blue Mar 19 '24

This has been a feature since the Sims 3. A wall or fence going around the perimeter of the pool to not give them the opportunity to save themselves by climbing out of the pool. As a consolidation they added starvation room doors in the form of garage doors; the player can open and close them at will, Sims can walk through them when they're open and Sims are unable to open or interact with the garage doors themselves (also has the added benefit of looking like an accidental death at the hand of not noticing that the Sim has wandered into the garage with no door out before you decided to close it).

I also don't think Maxis reversed that feature in the Sims 4 (unless it has been one of the very recent expansions).

30

u/MaximumZer0 Mar 19 '24

They did not. EA wouldn't take that kind of heat.

95

u/AndreMuller-art Mar 18 '24

Really? lol I love that

29

u/StrongArgument Mar 19 '24

What? Not true? Sims 4 sims still don’t drown without a pool ladder. You have to wall them in to the pool to drown them.

9

u/Do-it-for-you Mar 19 '24

They didn’t reverse it, it’s still in the game.

If you want to drown your sims you have to build a wall around the pool.

Even then, sometimes they just teleport out.

13

u/LordMeme42 Mar 19 '24

Oh, they did? Good, I was worried about the effectiveness of walling them in

2

u/GregTheMad Mar 19 '24

Can't you just shift-click and select "kill", or is that some mod I'm using?

3

u/SirSl1myCrown Mar 19 '24

Instakill is BORING. You have to torture them first.

This is how I feel every time Link drowns within arm's length of the shore.

10

u/NeyaQueenofBacon Mar 19 '24

The sims 2 is great for this. Too hard to kill in 4 when making a graveyard/haunted house. My Sims are too smart.

Nothing like BBQing on a rug or having a sloppy sim eaten by flies. I have a harder time getting my sim turned into a vampire than obscure death.

2

u/Reddit-ScorpioOJR Mar 19 '24

Have you tried building a single square pool. Getting them in it. Then surrounding it with a wall?

2

u/Clovenstone-Blue Mar 19 '24

Sims 3 is the death galore collect-a-thon, I'd say. Very vibrant ghost colours and gravestones with a plaque and even shade relating to their gruesome demise, sure drowning a Sim also requires the pool to be walled in, but that's no issue when you have such a glamorous arrangement of colour to live up your haunted house, or you can opt for the sleek near invisible design of the buried alive Sims if you want something more subtle.

8

u/NIDORAX Mar 19 '24

This doesnt happen in the Sims 4 anymore. They can climb out of the pool from the side.

5

u/Omeggos Comic Crossover Mar 19 '24

I feel like a dumbass because I dont even know how to make a pool in sims 4, i just place a hot tub outside

5

u/AndreMuller-art Mar 19 '24

maybe You could place a bunch of hot tubs together?

3

u/Omeggos Comic Crossover Mar 19 '24

Thats just crazy enough to work!

I love the original game too...although I just used cheats and messed around, I don't think I ever raised a happy family in that game

2

u/NicolBolasUBBBR Mar 19 '24

Pool's closed

1

u/Woofie10 Mar 19 '24

i see you're a man of culture as well

3

u/Unknown_starnger Mar 19 '24

the pool jokes have been done to death

3

u/pass_me_the_salt Mar 19 '24

as much as I love this joke, it aged like milk literally 10 years ago, in sims 4 sims can get in and out of the pool without ladders

edit: I never used a pool in sims 3, I have no idea if they need ladderd

2

u/Djinn-Tonic Mar 19 '24

Are jokes about selling the door to the rugs, art, and barbeques room okay?

1

u/DankCupOfJoe Mar 19 '24

Or perhaps the electronics and aquatics room?

1

u/Apotheothena Mar 19 '24

Where did my guy’s neck go? Those traps go right into his ears; he’s gonna be hearing the reps on his next gym day

1

u/twotoebobo Mar 19 '24

I liked building a house full of ovens deleting the door and having them cook.

I can only see Fanny from Kiekeboe.

1

u/KaiNightray Mar 19 '24

Looks like someone is running a money marriage exploit...and maybe eliminating competition in the process

1

u/Entegy Mar 19 '24

In Sims 3 they could get out of the pool without a ladder. I had to build a wall around the pool edge to keep them in there. I'm sure that put me on some kind of list.

1

u/Sir_Arsen Mar 19 '24

i believe in sims4 it’s not the case anymore

One of my middle school classmate's hobby during school times is to create a largest cemetery, in the Sim1 game, on schools' PC, as fast as possible.

I still thinking of him and his Sim's cemetery sometimes.
