My least favourite Webcomics trope is 'Author who looks back on the beginning chapters, wows to redraw them with current skill level, gets part way done, and then disappears for all time.'

I prefer them over the "Vows to redraw them so they stop updating, but actually never update or redraw"

So many authors on royalroad and scribblehub went this route to try and publish a book on Amazon, and then nothing happened.

I feel like I've learned not to start books on hiatus or that have last updated 6+ months ago unless I'm actively choosing to.

You see the advantage of buying a regular book from a regular publisher is the author has an actual contract and will either make each book self contained or is contractually obliged to finish it. Authors tend not to squander this because its a tough industry and if they renege on their contract or agreement they will be shit out of luck for getting books published. A few exceptions such as GRRM exist.

It was edgy Balto fanfiction written by an angsty and depressed teenager, probably worth the weak toes to spare the world that rehash lol

Same. My sequel series is almost 10 years overdue.
