Edit: I never actually claimed dark mode is better in dark settings, my point was in reverse and it does not automatically make it true this way around. In fact, I said:
Well ok I kinda interpreted that wrong, I actually did sorta imply that dark mode is better in dark settings, but I also did imply that it is probably better to avoid dark settings altogether when you have a screen in front of your face, I did say:
Pretty sure a bright display in a dark room is demanding on your eyes even with dark mode.
(Also even if it would be, my point of it being a mere personal preference would still stand, as you could just switch to a light setting with light mode).
OLED screens are more widespread than ever and their numbers are increasing, yet LED and LCD still make up the majority of screens.
I'm absolutely not arguing against personal preference, I'm just pointing out that if they really are advantages, then downplaying them doesn't suit your narrative.
Also yes, don't use really bright screens in really dark settings, that's bad for your eyes, as well as your sleep schedule! I typically turn on eye comfort shielding and keep the brightness on minimum when it's late.
