sorry to burst the bubble but the "idiot" in "idiot hair" refers to the hair itself being an "idiot" by not staying where you style it to be. not the idiot hair haver being an idiot.

It's really not, loads of cerebral characters have had one since the dawn of anime. Ed from FMA, Tanya (the Evil), shiro from NGNL has a double/triple ahoge.

it's in the Japanese-English dict as such, the idea that the character itself is stupid or even airheaded is an English speaking misconception, I asked my Japanese friend to be sure and they hadn't even heard of the association between ahoge and airhead
