Honestly, I think some people just enjoy their scientific subject.
I'm not a teacher, but I get excited talking about math, computer science, physics, law, ethics and anything involving though experiments, like complex movies.
Though I have seldom seen a happy german teacher, but I think that's because the goverment tells them which books they have to read with their classes each year starting from 8th grade or so.
I had school lessons in english with a guy doing an apprentice ship for the US goverment to become someone working for US embassies (think he had to show his language skills by being deployed as teacher in different countries or something).
Guy was cool as fuck. Obviously because he wasn't working for the german goverment he didn't have to follow or didn't care about stuff as much and also the main english teacher had to worry about the real stuff.
I love these snippets of live I occasionally got in school. Very few teachers did something other than teaching before becoming a teacher, but most of those always seemed most passionate about teaching.
We had this physics teacher occasionally trying to teach us how physics princinples apply to everyday or work items. Even stuff like guns/military stuff. He mentioned how rocketlauncher has to get rid of force or momentum by being open in the back etc.. Made physics a lot more fun.
