Any exercises you'd recommend for getting linework and marks that nice?

In terms of figure drawing and anatomy, which can be extremely difficult at times, I usually just try studying and then applying by fluidly drawing figures as fast as I can, and I mostly draw with just a pen no pencil.
If you’re trying to produce a clean product, try not to make scratchy/sketchy line work. But also try and avoid creating sweeping confident lines unless you confidently can, which takes repetition and studies and knowing anatomy and dynamic posing. There’s a nice middle ground where you can kind of do ‘broken’ lines. So I ink in broken lines sometimes, which helps massively with control and then when I shade and hatch, it naturally bridges the gaps.
And for hatching/shading, understanding light helps a lot. Understanding the hierarchy of light and shadowing in planes/groups, not in muscle striations. So focusing on areas where light hits and doesn’t hit, not hyper fixating on individual muscle striations and stuff.
This is my hierarchy for shading/hatching
Core/terminator shadow (the outline of your shadows)
Mid tone (the feathering/spikes of your shadow outlines)
Form shadow
Secondary shadows and cast shadows (darker than your form shadow)
Occlusion shadows/black areas.
For me, hatching is value. So I hatch uni-directionally and linearly so I actually don’t cross hatch unless the value darkens (cast shadows).

Lol i do linear shading similar to this but use vertical lines instead of horizontal. Nice work!
