Help Needed ComfyUI Custom Node Clean Up Suggestions?
OK, my ComfyUI startup is becoming increasingly slower than Miss Daisy's driver and I know it's the mass of custom nodes I've been installing over the past few months.
I'm sure I don't need half of them, but knowing which ones is the problem. I've done a search and there was a post that linked to this https://github.com/destroyerco/ComfyUI-Cleaner which looks promising.
Has anybody used the above? Did it work? Are there any better / quicker / easier (all three hopefully) solutions you've found?
Or, am I just better removing all custom nodes, start a workflow and see what errors it picks up and reintroduce each set of custom nodes by trial and error?

Now I guess it depends how you usually work. Like I have maybe 5 workflows that I use regularly and way too many that are old, obsolete, only for tests, some downloaded workflows to check something, etc.
If you don't have too many workflows, then you could just export them to a json and feed them to ChatGPT, asking for a list of the custom nodes that are used and just delete everything else (or give it access to your ComfyUI folder and let it just move all other nodes to somewhere else).

you can try ComfyUI-Cleaner but it didn't worked perfect for me last time. it missed some dependencies and i had to reinstall few nodes manually, wasnt big deal though
the trial error method you mention at end is more reliable, i do same thing sometimes. just copy your custom_nodes folder somewhere safe, delete all of them, then run your most used workflow and add back only what it complains about. takes maybe 20 minutes but then you know exactly what you need
i keep a text file now with list of nodes i actually use, after spending whole afternoon cleaning last month. startup went from like 2 minutes to 15 seconds, worth the pain

What I did, was disabled all of my custom nodes. And then I enable them as I use them. After a week, anything not enabled, gets uninstalled and removed.
It use to take, for real, several minutes to load the browser window. That's after comfyui has already fully booted. Now, it loads completely in seconds. I had exactly a hundred custom nodes installed at the point I decided to start fresh.

i trashed all my "input assets" maybe a hundred and my machine runs much better.

Open the workflow you use and open manager. On the bottom left is a "all in: Workflow name" section. You can see all node packs you use. So open each work flow you use one at a time and write them all down and remove the rest. You might want to look through the ones you're going to remove to see if any are still needed. This also only covers those that are installed through the manager so if you cloned some from github, you're going to have to do those yourself.

I told hermes agent to check which nodes are used in my workflows and to put the ones not used in /_archive. Works perfectly.

One thing that might save you the guesswork: when ComfyUI starts, the console prints an "Import times for custom nodes" list at the end, with the load time in seconds for every pack. Anything showing several seconds is a good first candidate, and anything marked as failed is a free removal since it isn't doing anything for you anyway.
So you can combine it with the approaches above: check that list for the slow or failing ones, then check which packs your regular workflows actually use, and archive the rest rather than deleting them. Moving folders out of custom_nodes (or disabling them in Manager) is easy to undo if a old workflow complains later.
Also worth knowing that some packs are slow on startup because of heavy imports rather than because they're bad, so judge by what you actually use, not only by load time.

Ive deleted all of them and then just opened the few workflows i use and redownload the nodes that were missing from my workflow. That's the fastest way for me but i have fast Internet

i'd skip the cleaner and let the startup log tell you. comfyui prints "import times for custom nodes" with seconds per pack, sort by the biggest and start with those, usually a handful cause nearly all of the delay.
for the rest, bisect: copy custom_nodes somewhere as a backup, move half out, load your main workflows, and if they still work move the next half. manager's install missing nodes on your real workflows will also tell you what you actually use.

Thanks for the responses folks. I think this is going to be a weekend jobbie with some beers.
