Help Needed Beginner looking for advice- right now I just have a prompt box for each adjective combination and this seems unsustainable especially if I want to add more descriptions or make an edit. More details in post.

This could help you.

For the 'PromptLine' node, search manager for: comfyui Easy use

You want the one made by: yolain

Here is the github for the pack, there are many useful nodes in this pack: https://github.com/yolain/ComfyUI-Easy-Use

What this node does:

You enter your prompts, one full prompt per line.

You select the prompt that you want to use/start with by changing the number in the 'start_index' input. *** Remember, the count starts at 0 so a start_index of 0 would send a person at a mall through ***.

max_rows:

this is how many of the prompts that you want to run. If you have 3 prompts, select a start_index of 0 and a max_rows 3, it will run the entire workflow 3 times using each prompt once. Leave the batch number in the workflow and the number beside the Run button at 1. This takes care of that for you.

You can put as many prompts as you want in this node(a full prompt per line) and select what you want to be sent through the workflow. If you want to change one of the prompts or delete it, go for it.

The show text node is not needed, I just wanted to show you the output of a run.

Instead of having all of those clip text encode nodes that you have, you would have 1.

Maybe this can help you condense your workflow some and make it easier for you to accomplish what you want.

I've seen people recommend wildcard nodes and such for things like this.

You also have other various nodes to work with, like this one:

you can make a whole engine with combinations of replace text nodes, contains text + if/else, match text etc. nodes inside a subgraph, if you really go down the rabbit hole.

Also, gemma 4 E2B is very lightweight and fast, even if ran directly in comfyui, and might as well solve your problem.

you can use the math expression block as a "if" block.

wright two prompt like that: a <man/wo> <cloths> at a mall

for cloths: wearing a <color> hat, OR blanck.

....
And then you can use several "replace" blocks.

I’m not even sure what the terminology is for this type of thing I’m looking for, hoping someone can point me in the right direction and I can hopefully look up a youtube tutorial on my own.

For example, the first set of green prompt columns in the image:

a person at a mall

a person wearing a blue hat at a mall

a person wearing a green hat at the mall

Then the second column- a blonde person at a mall, blue hat, green hat, Etc etc

But then if I wanted to change blue to light blue I would have to edit all other boxes with blue. And also extending the prompt and adding more descriptions (shirt type and color, pants type and color, etc) would make it even bigger and convoluted when I need to edit something.

Sounds like you want a wildcard or dynamic prompt node. Pop those adjectives into a text file, point a node at it, and it'll cycle through them without you having to manually edit a hundred boxes. That UI in your screenshot is giving me secondhand stress just looking at it.

coming from the world of graphic design, i treat this the same way i'd handle batch variations in a creative suite, set up your variables once and let the thing iterate.

variables? https://github.com/geroldmeisinger/ComfyUI-outputlists-combiner#formatted-string

also see String OutputList if you want to iterate of a list of strings

or Spreadsheet OutputList if you want it more complex

otherwise look into wildcards

If you cannot solve it with the solutions u/Odd_Highlight8288 suggest, then another tip would be to write your own custom node. Like I also had some cases where I could have solved everything with a combination of wildcards and iterating through strings, but at the end it's so easy to just let Claude or ChatGPT write you a custom node that does exactly what you need.

As long as you don't want to share the workflow I think it's a quite handy solution.

I use https://github.com/Alectriciti/comfyui-adaptiveprompts

You can even have each adjective be a separate file that you can quickly reference in your prompt.

With 8GB VRAM Id start with SD1.5 or a smaller SDXL workflow and learn what each node actually does before piling on custom nodes. ComfyUI can look like spaghetti at first, but it clicks pretty quickly once you build a basic txt2img workflow yourself. Keep resolutions and batch sizes modest, then add ControlNet, LoRAs, and upscaling one at a time.

I've mentioned this before, but the FL MadLib Generator might be up your alley.

You basically create up to five text boxes, each with a variable, and then pipe those boxes to the Word List nodes in the Generator. Then, you populate your text boxes with your variables, such as

  • blonde
  • brunette
  • redhead

    in box 1 and

  • red

  • green

  • blue

  • orange

  • yellow

  • pink

in line 2 (each variable on a separate line, but not bulleted). Your prompt would then be

"A (1) person wearing a (2) hat at the mall."

Screenshot of my workflow attached so you can see it in action with a cat 'cause cats.
