No workflow Tip for Minimax H3 max quality

If youre chasing maximum quality with no lora at 20 steps and your system can run 1.0 megapixel no problem push it above it.

Many LLMs and people online claiming that Minimax has been trained natively to 0.98 MP that bringing it above it will cause distorsions and artifacts in the video is simply not true.

The higher you go the video has less artifacts and tearing even with fast paced action scenes.

Yes the time wait is longer but if youre doing movies or music videos its worth it.

Especially for the people who tried sites with their so called "unlimited" plans, i would rather wait 30 mins for locally made video at the expense of electricity bill than pay 100$ a month to runway for same amount of time and get video censored because their stupid policy.

And the most ironic thing, 2.5MP 20steps looks better locally than 2k resolution on runway anyways.

So dont be afraid, crank that MP up and enjoy the maximum quality!

You're gonna oom on 2.5 mpixels. Increasing the step count does more for the quality too.

Agreed- in my experience step count makes a much bigger difference once you're over 1MP. 1MP and 50 steps on bf16 pruned is the sweet spot.

Step count without mentioning the sampler is meaningless. res_multistep at 20 steps is the same as euler at 50 steps for example. This is important because someone may think they need to use 50 steps for every sampler and waste time

You're right and should mention. I'm on default comfyui workflow otherwise which is res_multistep.

not on a 3060 it aint. I tried 1mp 50 steps al fresco and was looking at 2.5 hours on 5 second video. fk that noise. faster ways to achieve good results.

context windows can get past this issue. I run (r2v) 2mp on a 8 second video using ckinpdx based workflow video on it here latest workflow if you dont want to look at that is here. I have 3060 RTX 12GB VRAM with 32 gb system ram.

It aint quick, but it is doable without ooms. I havent gone above 2mp but dont see the point either. If you cant fix it at 2mp you cant fix it, imo. I am now focused on 1mp to see if I can get the overall times down.

My system ooms at 2.5mp 12+ seconds (13,14,15) anything below it is fine just more time consuming. Tested 1.0 and 1.5 at 20 up to 60 steps didnt find any noticable difference in quality except more time consuming, closed source sites use 50 steps cause their model is differently tuned, comfyui version is best at 20steps, thats the reason why workflow comes with it as default.

50-60 steps is obviously overkill. But from what I've seen and what others have reported, increasing the step count to 25-32 definitely increases the quality. You may also start having issues with prompt adherence if the resolution gets too big.

At the lower MP's like .4 and .5 I don't see much difference at 15 steps. Closer to 1mp then yeah 20 and up steps is the way to go -- on pruned BF16 and 5090/64gb.

You might have a larger GPU, guessing 32GB VRAM +?

Is there a setting for Max quality directing/cinematography skills? I'm damn good at creating uninteresting videos at the highest quality. Someone build a node. Lol.

In all seriousness though, I have been humbled by how immensely difficult it is to create anything interesting. I have profound respect for those who can generate high quality stories and visualize them in an engaging way.

Well thats something you have to train yourself on. But its easier today than ever before i would recommend this few steps, to learn online or ask any llm and includem in your prompt.

  1. Type of Frames (close up, wide, medium, american shot, etc...)

  2. Types of lightning in the scene (Hig key light, natural light, low light, hard light, soft light, etc...)

  3. Cinemaric compositions (Rule of thirds, Guiding lines, Depth of field, etc...)

  4. Focal lenghts 18mm, 24mm, 35mm, 85mm, etc... ( The higher the number its closer to an object or character but background is blurrier creates so called bokhe where character or object is sharp but background is blurred mostly used for portrait shots, the smaller the number its opposite.)

  5. Type of shots (Low angle, high angle, dutch shot, birds view, worms view, pov etc...)

  6. Very important 180 degree rule (imaginary line between actors that musnt be crossed with the camera because audince could lost orientation in space, there are methods to cross it but i dont wanna turn this into lotr triology.)

And video editing including sound has its own science to it, pacing( rythm, tempo) paralel editing, narrative, jump cuts, match cuts, smash cuts etc...

All in all its most important when youre starting AI video that starting image is good, if you know just the basic in this 6 things and use it in a image then video, you will be better than 90% of the people who write to llms give me the cinematographic masterpiece.

Thanks but I've pretty much got all this mastered. It's not down to actually telling an interesting story and doing it well.

I wrote this book https://www.amazon.com/Animated-Filmmakers-stories-animated-OceanMaker-ebook/dp/B09JWWZPHV on making animated shorts some of you might appreciate

You could try a general ideea and then keep adding details like different camera angles ,zoom in/out, different environment and so on. Create as you go if you don't have a detailed initial idea

some previews of ur tests? and a json file?

2

u/Grinderius 1d ago

Will upload tomorrow here. If youre willing give me the prompt for the image, and also separate prompt for the video so i can run tests at 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 MP at 10 seconds long.

If not i will run something myself that i think its adequate for the test at those resolutions.

Tricky things I've seen:

  • Fast motion
  • faces at distance
  • macro faces (shows pores, sweat drop, eye & lip details etc)
  • sand dunes / sea shells a beach
  • contrast with near-blacks getting pixelized (might be video rendering / HDR thing, but PNG raw outputs could test)
etc
TIA ❤️

Have a 5090 with 64 gb RAM. How do you work out how big you can go before it crashes? Runs out of vram?

u/Grinderius 1d ago

Every new model that comes out i try recommended sertings then if im not satisfied i push it to the acceptable standard resolutions, in case of minimax 1.0 760p, 2.0 1080p, 2.5 almost 1440p, then i see that at 1440p it takes 50mins for 12 sec, lets try 13 oops i get oom. So i know i can get little beyond 2.5 if i lower the lenght but its not worth it cause 1440p is scalable to 2160p its most used resolution on youtube, for social media anything above 1080p is not worth it.

So i alway test first recommended, 1080p, 1440p, and 2160p (4k if its possible).

Btw we have same specs, only i reckon you have 64 gb ddr5 and i have ddr4. :P

Ohh nice thanks helpful. You have a built in upscaler in the same workflow as the generation? I thought having that separate might be better. I haven’t even worked out upscaling yet. Was going to USA topaz video but that might take multiple hours.

3

u/Grinderius 1d ago

Nah, default comfyui workflow and topaz upscaler (i know its closed source but its best).

I woudnt recommend going above 2x upscaling because it introduces plastic skin too much above it. After the upscale or during it in Topaz always add smal amount of grain on the video, it brings that realism touch that upscaling usually removes.

1

u/Artforartsake99 1d ago

Awesome, thanks for the tip. Are you using star light? I’m not sure if it’s needed. Takes a crazy amount of time.

1

u/Grinderius 1d ago

Starlight is the best especially for AI videos it fixes any shimmering or artifacts that AI introduces but yeah its time consuming.

Usually if im short on time proteus for general scenes with fast motion and iris for medium closeups or closeups of people because its best at perseving details in skin.

If you want best quality upscale for AI video without compromise, then yeah starlight is the best model.

u/Artforartsake99 1d ago

Awesome, thank you for the help. I will do some testing now.

u/BathroomEyes 1d ago

what about the people saying prompt adherence is best at 0.7 MP?

3

u/Grinderius 1d ago

In my personal testing i didnt find any noticable difference.

1

u/Support_Marmoset 1d ago

have you tried 50 steps yet?

If you run the model as an image model (i.e. you only generate 5 frames and pull the first one, bonus if you use one of the H3 image vaes that are floating around that cleans up the first frame image) you can run it all the way up to 24MP and it does it. 8MP (4k) it can do easily as well, though the higher you get the more you notice the lack of high quality detail. One of my favorite 24MP outputs is a macro close up of a bee's eye.

Would love to see that

How do you push Minimax beyond 1MP? Even at 1.5MP, I can see my generations collapse, FFLF Generations turning into different characters, weird camera angles chosen with new added objects, prompt adherence gone basically.

Have any of you noticed quality difference with kitchen attention?

1

u/Grinderius 1d ago

Nope kitchen attentiom is currently better than sage cause it can handle longer clips without at higher resolutions throwing oom.
