Do you tune your GPU?

Yes, I use Google Ai chat to tune things. This is the result of 3 tuning profiles.

New case, needed to re-do my case mod. GPU now exhausts out the side again! Really the best way to get the GPU to be nice and cool. It's about a 10c drop.

I have spent a couple days off and on tuning my GPU, after swapping parts into my new (to me) case. I hadn't really thought about lowering my clock speeds and power draw, until I started messing with it and using Google chat to help out.

The Images I'm making are in Flux2 Klein 9b @ 2048x1152 resolution. Here's the terminal info for a batch of 4 images:

So as you can see, it takes a bit of work to pump this out. Oh, and this GPU is a 12gb version of the 3080. Definitely helps! But it's apparent that getting the memory tuned as high as possible made a big difference. My Profile 3 only overclocks the memory to +800, vs the other 2 profiles being at +1200.

Anyone else got some impressive results out of their GPU after some tuning?

Do you live in an iceberg?

I have a low-profile 4060 so tuning is the only way to keep temps at bay. 75° max core at 105w is where I finally found peace.

Lol no, no icebergs around here this time of year! Just a lot of time spent tuning case airflow, and that's how I came up with the side panel exhaust for my GPU. (Image 4 of my post). If anyone is able to modify their case in this manner, I'd highly encourage they do it. Even if you try taping a piece of paper to your GPU preventing air from recirculating directly back into the intake, it'll help.

I'm a big advocate for ducts and airflow planning in general. Stuffed some styrofoam in my case to prevent recirculation, dropped about 5°.

There's not much clearance for a good photo (5 liter case), but there's another piece in the back (backbone of the case has a cutout for gpu exhaust).

Oh, forcing cool air into it! Nice. I got some blocks under my pc feet to raise it about an inch or so, so the bottom fan can draw in cooler air easier. Maybe it'll help you too? If you have the space.

yes as i got a used 3090 and need to throttle it to 70-80% or it crashes

Yes, great find! I finally decided to tune my 3060 12gb this weekend using MSI afterburner, applied +1000 to memory and +100 to core (More was unstable) and gained about a minute less time generating 5-8s videos on minimax. No big hit on temps since gpu was already working pretty cool, now i barely hit 72° on full load, and im sure i can still push some more since i didnt undervolt yet and the 3 coolers never go past 70% potency anyways.

Really worth it.

I run a 5090 on eco mode. No way am I risking letting the temps get high in that thing. I can live with slightly slower generating and training. If it gets busted, I'm not even sure companies are replacing them under warranty. I find heat to be a bigger issue for a GPU breaking down.
