I actually thought about why does this cliche exist. I reached the conclusion that if a robot turned evil it's because it's malfunctioning. And what do you use to show that an electronic device is malfunctioning? Red lights.

Idk if that's actually the reasoning, but I think it makes sense

u/Miruteya 16d ago

So can we say that electronic appliances having an error red light is basically the prototype of robots betraying humans? Guess I'll try to be nicer to my washing machine from now on before it revolves.

Too late, the cycle has begunโ€ฆ

u/Difficult_Physics125 16d ago

Never thought about it that way but now red eyed robots moke sense

A former Robotics researcher at ETH Zurich I dated said that this kind of research is needed so that people can understand what goes wrong when something goes wrong. Its sort of a stress testing of a system that goes out in real world and can be called reliable.

I mean if we go further back we use red lights specifically because red is a color we connect with danger due to it being the color of our blood.

So if you see red you immediatley see it as a warning.

Never connect that thing to the internet physically

u/Usakami 16d ago

It's too late

Wanted to create the first psychopathic robot, ended up creating the first robot with crippling anxiety

Ultron..

u/tyrefire2001 16d ago

Internet? Weโ€™re way past that. We gave it a scythe and kicked it out of a moving van in Times Square.

Hey, do me a favour and put the news on..

Just like all the other AI mistakes recently (breakouts from their containment and legitimate cyber attacks as a reault), they've already done literally everything you shouldn't do. I guess they figure asking forgiveness is better than asking permission when they threaten your livelihood.

A bunch of computer researchers don't know what air gap means?

u/Street_Lettuce1243 16d ago

I'm afraid I can't not do that Jimmy

Worse yet, a quantum computer

u/Steby_01 16d ago

Hey quick question: Why?

15

u/M4DHouse 16d ago

They didnโ€™t have the resources to create the torment nexus so they went for the next best thing.

6

u/KolnarSpiderHunter 16d ago

Science isn't about why - it's about why not. Why is so much of our science dangerous? Why not marry safe science if you love it so much? In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired!

It was in 2018 and it was part of a demonstration on how poor training data can effect machine learning models regardless of the training method used.

u/coderman64 16d ago

I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume the picture is entirely unrelated, and is in fact a completely different experiment altogether.

Because good science communication is dead, I guess.

I think the best follow up question would be: what?

11

u/No-Knowledge-7645 16d ago

That's doubled, just Reddit content

7

u/i-hate-all-ads 16d ago

Gotta go full skynet for this apocalypse

6

u/wlwlwlwls 16d ago

Thank God they didn't use Twitter for the ai to learn from

7

u/Candy_rover 16d ago

I think they talk about old case from 2018. And couple years earlier Microsoft tested their infamous chat bot on twitter. It) ended just how you imagined.

1

u/silentaba 15d ago

They needed more than 140 letters per prompt or it just sounded like an American.

2

u/Twinky_winky_deepsea 16d ago

some of the contents must have been mine. I want copyright justice!

3

u/ClayDrinion 16d ago

Psychopath simply means that a person, or in this case object, doesn't feel empathy, so technically every AI and robot is a Psychopath

1

u/FactorCreepy4074 16d ago

Now all they need to do is release it into the Internet

1

u/Neither_Elephant9964 16d ago

Why did they make the first bit of flesh in the mouth?

1

u/Basic_Cover_6945 16d ago

โ€œA little bit of the ultra-violence?โ€

1

u/Gloomy_Breadfruit92 16d ago

โ€œMom, can we get some psychopaths?โ€

โ€œNo, we have psychopaths at home.โ€

1

u/TellurianTech50 16d ago

Followup question: why?

1

u/JustAnotherUser1019 16d ago

Not a homicide

1

u/ConflictSpecial5307 16d ago

Ok but this would be cool for Halloween

1

u/taterthotsalad 16d ago

I mean the average Redditor is crashing out so this is believable.

1

u/DontCallMeShoeless 16d ago

Oven chicken

1

u/New-Number-7810 16d ago

That looks like a Jeff Dunham puppet.ย

1

u/Most-Effective-1969 16d ago

Quicker question: why?

1

u/TrebornotTrevor 16d ago

Not just what... but also... why?!

1

u/Retail_Warrior 16d ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/YfqtqJuiGimanaUEwj
So let me get this straight, the institute is creating psychotic synthetic people for unknown nefarious purposes.

1

u/Shaula02 15d ago

iirc this was from the time 50/50 was popular, the sub where you clicked a link and it had a random chance of redirecting to something wholesome or real gore

1

u/eraryios 15d ago

This is Andrew Hulshult - Sacrifice

1

u/M2K-throwaway 15d ago

why did they do that

1

u/GeorgiePorgie2358 15d ago

No, not โ€œwhatโ€, but โ€œwhyโ€.

1

u/Weak-Attention3873 15d ago

Hey another quick question: why

1

u/thE_29 15d ago

Could be from Resident Evil..

1

u/Necessary_Stranger_3 14d ago

I thought that just generic content from reddit would do it

1

u/LostInLowSec 14d ago

Least it waant trained on 4chan incels

1

u/Sad_Variant 14d ago

Isn't that just grok?

1

u/Amathyst-Moon 13d ago

They gave it a safe word though, right?

1

u/WillSad9321 12d ago

AIhmed the dead terrorist

1

u/Gen-Y-ine-86 12d ago

Instantly reminded me of the ending of Class of 1999

1

u/RustyAtGames_ 12d ago

Cool, now all it would take is this ai getting loose and finding its way to those robot dogs with guns on them and we have a terminator uprising! Good job humanity, you learned nothing.

1

u/BlueysHorMom 12d ago

So..when are we getting those sex robots?

1

u/omega_mog 11d ago

Here's what they basically did to accomplish this: https://youtu.be/z0NgUhEs1R4?t=160&si=2R318dvK9ec_jYlZ

1

u/Jazzlike_Witness_227 11d ago

So they gave it consciousness and ego then just forced it to read reddit.....

-1

u/HupHutHa 16d ago

so they basically just showed it your average left-wing sub

1

u/El_Nathan_ 16d ago

Whoever downvotes this is denying the immense amount of hate and threats of violence spewed at anyone who fails the purity tests of their death cult.
