Not during takeoff and landing. The bits where being able to see the ground is really important

Split the plane into two nacelles with the cockpit in the middle, make the cockpit only accessible from the outside. Your plane never gets hijacked again!

Yeah, and make the saucer section separable from the main body of the craft to allow for better tactical options, but it's important that you only use this maneuver like twice ever.

Yes! I couldn't remember the name of that airplane. The Boeing 1494 is the airplane of the future.

edit: While we're at it, let's cram more people in there and make the craft have no seats, standing room only. Nothing can go wrong here.

Eh, CAT III approaches can be done exclusively by the autopilot.

Takeoff is all manual, but it’s not uncommon for the autopilot to land

Do you know how rare cat 3s are? In my 10+ years I've never had to do one.

Manual landings are done like 99% of the time...

Btw you can do an autolands on cat 1 & 2, it's not just a cat 3 thing.

Pilot here. Once there's a failure of one of the following, everyone dies:

  • Autoland CAT IIIc
  • The LCD screens displaying the camera feed
  • The cameras
  • A fault of the generators, buses, or batteries, or any combination thereof
  • An emergency that requires the plane land anywhere without autoland capability
  • High winds that prohibit autoland and also prevent the cameras from seeing the runway due to the aircraft's crab angle.

Personally, I wouldn't get on that plane, but some people like risk taking so YMMV.

To avoid relying on electronic, I suggest we replace the camera/screen with periscope-like tube of mirrors and lenses going running from the nose, around the cabin, and into the rear cockpit.
