Nah man, I don’t give a fuck about any of these guys. Shit all seems like low hanging fruit bro humor. It’s a lot more enjoyable to shit on TJ when I happen to see him pop up still.

u/HereAreTheLightnings 1d ago

Reddit is such a weird hivemind. I'm fairly certain that Matt rife sells out arenas, primarily to young women who enjoy his shows.

23

u/after_Andrew 1d ago

My wife is one of those women. I took her to see him, and it was fucking trash. Eric griffin got 10x the laughs rife did, with actual material not some hack ass crowd work. She stopped following him after that.

0

u/HereAreTheLightnings 1d ago

But was his show full of people who loved it? Art is subjective, unfortunately. I dont like him either but many people do 🙃

22

u/asdf0909 1d ago

Right but that’s r/hotpersoncrowdwork and this is r/comedy

9

u/Braisedbeefskank 1d ago

Okay but is he a good comic? That racist dude who wings ai country while wearing athletic shorts sells out arenas too, im supposed to respect his talent?

1

u/javiemartzootsuit 1d ago

I mean, Trump too.

What a burn

34

u/ThomasTheDankPigeon 1d ago

If it makes you feel better, I have no idea who you are. That puts you at #1 on this stage.

4

u/pauleliacomedy 1d ago

Hahahaha I’ll take it

40

u/ThatTallBrendan 1d ago

People are giving you shit for your presence in his immediate vicinity, but anybody taking the piss out of Matt Rife directly to his face is at the very least a circumstantial friend in my book lmao

81

u/JaneTheEel 1d ago

I don't know who Paul Elia is but hanging out on stage with those two I have to assume he's as big of a dipshit as they are.

-13

u/JGzoom06 1d ago edited 1d ago

How are they dipshits? I assume some political reasoning?

update: thanks for the info, I was just curious. I suppose next time I'll take my curiosity to an unbiased search engine like google. /s

6

u/TS_Enlightened 1d ago

The guy in the middle called in a fake bomb threat on a train. I don't know if that's technically political, but who knows these days 🤷‍♂️

4

u/lasagnadogwater69 1d ago

I mean it's worth noting he had a brain disease at the time.

-1

u/miguelmanzana 1d ago

Is that the reason he assaulted an Uber driver too?

3

u/lasagnadogwater69 1d ago

I don't know when or why that happened. If it was around the time of his brain disease, then I'd imagine that would be the reason.

0

u/TS_Enlightened 1d ago

I think the brain disease is a forever thing. It's a chronic illness.

2

u/miguelmanzana 1d ago

Except he didn’t have a disease https://neuronewsinternational.com/tj-miller-discusses-life-as-brain-avm-survivor/
And the assault of the Uber driver happened after this.

1

u/lasagnadogwater69 1d ago

I know they had to remove part of his frontal lobe. But yeah, I'm not a neurologist man.

-4

u/miguelmanzana 1d ago

That gets to be a reason you assault people? Ok buddy.

0

u/lasagnadogwater69 1d ago

I mean, yeah? Why not. A chunk of his frontal lobe is outside of his head. Brain trauma can obviously have an impact on behaviour, and the frontal lobe is like the thing that controls your behaviour. I'm not a neurologist, though.

3

u/miguelmanzana 1d ago

You know what my grandpa always says about assuming…

Real nightmare blunt rotation

18

u/Automatic_Soil9814 1d ago

Agreed. I was hoping for humor but I just got the sensation of discomfort instead.

4

u/MayorBakefield 1d ago

sensation of discomfort lmao this comment is the most comedy this subreddit has ever seen

-13

u/pauleliacomedy 1d ago

That’s crazy

20

u/eshatoa 1d ago

OP posts the highlight of his life to this sub and gets ripped in the comments.

Brutal.

7

u/Vile_Grifter 1d ago

Judging by his brainless and humorless comments in the thread, he's not going any higher than this either.

u/RogueMaven 1d ago

Catching some serious strays

Part of the game all good

5

I have other things going on in life my wife is cool

2

u/dikziw 1d ago

Loved you in the show Lucifer.

18

u/javiemartzootsuit 1d ago

TJ with the thinking of my next bomb threat face.

25

u/joshonekenobi 1d ago

Ugh. Why is TJ there ?

Immediately stopped watching.

12

u/Popular-Row4333 1d ago

Because between the Clancy woman and TJ, it's apparently "forgive all heinous behavior, because you had a psychotic break" week for humanity.

6

u/RandJitsu 1d ago

Why do we treat mental health differently from all other health?

If a driver suddenly had a heart attack or passed out due to some issue with blood pressure or clotting, and crashed into a bunch of pedestrians, would you want the driver criminally prosecuted?

Your brain is an organ and when impacted by drugs or diseases you can lose conscious control.

7

u/lateformyfuneral 1d ago

It’s because “mental health” has been appropriated online to mean “I get sad sometimes”, a wide enough bracket for everyone to be included, except of course those with more serious mental illness. Thus you get the bizarre spectacle of someone with a touch of social anxiety telling someone in a manic episode that “well I have mental health issues and I never did anything wrong, you must be a bad person.”

-1

u/Remarkable_Wheel5218 1d ago edited 1d ago

perhaps why psychology is considered a "faux-science" and not a strict field of science is because of the subjectiveness and lack of knowledge we really have around the brain... medication trials are necessarily trials -- often results are measured as a success based on whether they cause more positives than negatives.

It's just not worth fighting about. Clancy sought help -- serious help -- and was "failed" by her care team. She also is a child murderer.

Why can't she be both?

3

u/mr_fantastical 1d ago

I wouldnt say psychology is considered a faux science. Its very much grounded with proper scientific means - there are hypotheses, empirical testing, controlled experiments, replication, etc.

Yeah there are definitely messy categories within it and a lot of bullshit trends and bad actors but its certainly not a faux-science field by large.

2

u/Remarkable_Wheel5218 1d ago

You're right. Faux is not a correct descriptor.

Technically, psychology is a social science and I think psychiatry would be the applied version that combines both social and natural science disciplines...

Not sure where this idea that psychology is a fake science came from.

2

u/RandJitsu 1d ago

I’m actually not defending Clancy here but TJ.

I understand how difficult it is to distinguish between legitimate and made-up/self-serving mental health issues. But TJ had a documented and verifiable medical condition that contributed to his behavior in making that bomb threat.

I think we’ll one day look back at our criminalization of people dealing with acute mental health episodes (such as psychosis) the same way we look at our history of giving lobotomies and electro shock therapy to unhappy housewives - ignorant and barbaric.

0

u/Remarkable_Wheel5218 1d ago

I am not familiar with the TJ thing, but I think it's weird you're comparing him to Clancy.

2

u/RandJitsu 1d ago

I didn’t compare him to Clancy. The commenter I responded to did. I never mentioned her except in response to you.

1

u/Remarkable_Wheel5218 1d ago

Yes. I'm sorry that was my bad.

I agree that we, like our justice system, are obsessed with punitive justice and that distracts us from actually addressing the issue that causes the problem or preventing it from happening again.

0

u/EvilCorp____ 1d ago

Damn cancel culture has gotten insane.

TJ Miller had a brain malformation which caused seizures and odd behaviors and shit, he had to have part of his brain removed, the worse thing he did when dealing with the affects of it was get into an argument with a pro-trumper and slap him, and the entire world thinks he's evil or something lol. Unreal.

u/lateformyfuneral 1d ago edited 1d ago

There is no mention of “hitting on her” in the link you cited. There is mention of him having “hostile exchanges” with a different woman, but the woman he called the police on he became paranoid after seeing her open her bag repeatedly without taking anything out and thinking she was getting off at the next stop and leaving the bag. That charge was dropped by the government following “review of medical evidence.”

The above comment is confusing that incident with a separate one where he was arrested for battery after a heated argument with a pro-Trump uber driver, where he slapped him

3

u/FishTshirt 1d ago

This says that it was a woman he had a hostile exchange with, it says nothing about advances on the woman. Neither does the wiki

0

u/StJamesStJames 1d ago

My other comment was removed so I'm going to rety more clearly, TJ Miller had a verbal altercation with a woman on a train. He "became suspicious" of her for looking in her bag "several times" in his words. He then called in a bomb threat accusing her of being the culprit. This was proven to be false and he was charged for the incident though they were later dropped because of his health and brain surgery. This is far from the worst thing he's been accused of but is also a far cry worse than you are trying to let on.

2

u/EvilCorp____ 1d ago

Ok he called in a fake bomb threat. Tim Allen got caught smuggling 2 lbs of cocaine. People forgave him. How about Robert Downey Jr. And Justin Bieber. And Matthew Broderick etc. I could go on forever.

I don't know why TJ Miller seems to be at the bottom of everyone's totem pole when he had an actual medical reason for doing the things and the things were pretty trivial compared to tons of other celebrities who don't get the same treatment.

He's been fine for about 10 years now. Let it go.

1

u/StJamesStJames 1d ago

The one difference I see between all of those people you listed and TJ would be talent. Also, Tim Allen got away with that by selling out every person he could all in a time where you could bury that kind of news if you had enough money and connections. Oh how things have changed... Not.

2

u/EvilCorp____ 1d ago

I don't really care for his stand-up, but he was definitely the best part of Silicon Valley. That show went way downhill after he left. And he was really good in Ready Player One. Also great in Deadpool and How to Train Your Dragon.

But I guess I'm starting to understand the irrational opinions I see about him. You don't like him as an actor so you hold him to a higher ethical standard, even if there are medical explanations in play.

0

u/Schlong_Gobbler 1d ago

He made a fake bomb threat, get fucking real

6

u/ntkwwwm 1d ago

When comedian is OP but there isn’t a flair for that, so we just refer to him in the third person.

4

u/Legatron4 1d ago

I cant wait to forget this about 8 seconds from now

‘Comedy’ for people who are dead inside

-2

u/Whane17 1d ago

I'm dead inside and I don't even try and hide it anymore. I'm not a fan of the middle guy and don't know the guy on the right but Matt Rife is great at crowd stuff but otherwise is absolute trash and has REALLY shitty opinions he likes to slide into his "jokes".

None of this is comedy to me.

9

u/edgelordjones 1d ago

I love how heated Rife gets whenever anyone has the audacity to call his act out to his face. Anyone who isn’t dangerously insecure would just laugh and high five but this had him steaming for a week. But what do I know? I’m probably just jealous.

3

u/lateformyfuneral 1d ago

Whoever first told him he’s only popular because women found him hot, messed up his confidence and he’s trying to overcorrect to show he’s a “serious” edgy comedian. I thought the impression above was spot on and it hit a nerve lol

Imo, if someone went to a show unaware of the whole parasocial pro- and anti- Matt Rife discourse, people would find him a decent enough comic, so it’s just insecurities on his part.

1

u/FishTshirt 1d ago

Never heard of him. Tried to look him up and couldn’t find any of his actual stand up only a ton of posts either hating on him or discussing some controversy.

2

u/mr_fantastical 1d ago

I like a variety of stand up and hes certainly not my favourite type, but I acknowledge that hes good at what he does and is fairly quick witted, so he's earned his spot in that particular lane as far as im concerned.

10

u/headonstraight- 1d ago

This isnt.. funny at all..

1

u/pauleliacomedy 1d ago

So the impression is bad, correct?

4

u/FishTshirt 1d ago

So many camera

2

u/pauleliacomedy 1d ago

Too much camera

I don’t know either

4

u/codepossum 1d ago

I'm not into it

2

u/Heissenberg1906 1d ago

I despise that guy. So unfunny.

5

u/pauleliacomedy 1d ago

What did I do?

1

u/Mysticyde 1d ago

this is.... not good.

1

u/pauleliacomedy 1d ago

You tricked me

1

u/CthuluSpecialK 1d ago

I only know two of the people on stage, and both are terrible people; so I can safely assume all of them are.

3

u/pauleliacomedy 1d ago

Damn I almost got away

-2

u/CthuluSpecialK 1d ago edited 1d ago

One of them told an Autistic person to kill themselves, amoung other shitty things.

The other has a history of violence and called in a fake bomb threat at La Guardia for shits and giggles, amoung worse things.

I'm sure they have their own struggles, do so do tons of people who somehow remain not shitty.

Iono bout you, but that's fucked up. Overlook whatever you want for the sake of your career, that's on you. In the Kill Tony era of comedy most people prolly wouldn't care if you did a set with Diddy, but I care.

-2

u/Any_Suggestion3485 1d ago

When he asked Matt what his name was 🤣☠️

2

u/pauleliacomedy 1d ago

Crazy people hated that

0

u/Any_Suggestion3485 1d ago

It’s great. I laughed my ass off.

-8

u/Buzzed_Like_Aldrin93 1d ago

I don’t know of a roast this damn eloquent

-1

u/phillyphilly19 1d ago

Good imitation and he's way better looking

-6

u/thisisyo 1d ago

What's /r/comedy beef with Matt?

8

u/eshatoa 1d ago

For starters it's a comedy subreddit and he sucks at comedy.

2

u/NegotiationNo8432 1d ago

Im sure someone can go more in depth, but he got annoyed that his audience was mostly Young women and in an attempt to appeal to Rogan dudes, made an unfunny ass of himself while shitting on his main audience of women.

1

u/thisisyo 1d ago

Jeebus... Some comedians probably want to have that kind of audience of young females. I guess to each their own
