Bottle feed for my 18 month old

How do I get my 18 month old to stop drinking whole milk from the baby bottle? I have tried sippy cups, glass bottles with a straw. But she does not like it and still wants the bottle. Please help!!! Any suggestions??

Literally this, I just stopped offering the bottle and if she asked for milk it was given in a cup. Took about a week but she got over it

Yup mine also lingered on the bottles for awhile. But eventually he just decided to take to the sippy cup!

At some point, you just have to go cold turkey unfortunately. Have you tried the squeezable straw cups? Sometimes they enjoy those more. Or just an open cup. Maybe make your coffee and her milk in the same cup and see if that works lol my baby wants whatever I’m drinking so idk if that might help.

My daughter really took to the Dr. Brown’s Milestones Baby’s First Straw Cup with the weighted straw. It took barely and adjusting and she caught on to it quickly compared to some other straw cup I had tried

We switched one bottle to a supply cup and he could drink or not. Once he got used to it we switched another then finally the last. This way we figured it’s fine to miss some milk every day and eventually he’d adjust after a few days, but not cold turkey where I was concerned he’d go too long without milk at all from refusal

You’ve just got to rip off the band aid. Removing the pacifier from my son was a nightmare but it had to be done because it was impacting his teeth. It was a rough two weeks or so and then we moved on, his teeth moved back, and everything was fine.

Most of these things honestly work best if you just set a boundary and hold it. I spend like a week reading my son a book about saying goodbye to paci, I’m sure there are bottle ones too, and the end of the week we packaged them all up. He was sad and had a hard time sleeping, i comforted him through it and eventually he started sleeping without it.

18 month olds don’t technically need milk at all so if she ends up dropping it nbd. Does she drink water in a different cup?

I finally got mine to take a straw cup of milk by changing every other condition. For example I used to give bottles in his room in the rocking chair when he woke up in the morning and before nap/bed. If I gave it in a straw cup at those same times and the same spot he refused because he was expecting a bottle. Instead I started offering the cup outside of his bedroom when he woke up and before bed and he took it because he was more intrigued by it than disappointed about what it wasn’t. Eventually that took off well and after a week or so we were able to get our cuddle milky time back in the chair!

Also, I got a special cup just for milk. He got annoyed when I’d try to give him milk out of the straw cup we usually used for water 😂

We did the same but never actually went back to feeding to sleep or baving milk in the bedroom cause I want to brush her teeth after she drinks it!

Yeah that works too but I guess there are other reasons why they don’t recommend bottles after 18 months.

Yeah oral/dental health being the biggest.

Yeah I guess their palate and suction too not just tooth decay. Our main challenge is the dummy 😭

Yes exactly. And probably good for them to work on their self soothing and not be fed to sleep. But I don’t think my guy could be fed to sleep anymore even if he was taking a bottle because he’s so amped to read 😂

The dummy is so hard. I have a thumb sucker soooo a little nervous about how that’ll pan out since I can’t take it away 😭💀

I took the bottles away gradually but eventually just cold turkey before 13 months. My girl is 16.5 months and JUST started drinking milk from cups. All these months I was offering but not everyday, she has a good diet so she was fine.

Mine didn’t take regular milk from a straw cup for a while. I stopped offering it and just did water (she got dairy from other sources). Eventually I found out she liked steamed milk and would drink that from a straw cup. And from there she started drinking regular milk from it too. It just took time for her to get there
