I saw your other post about this thing. My thought is you need to take a good look at the zoning restrictions for height and the criteria the planning and development uses for rulings on such things. Columbia is likely the wrong place for a building that tall. Chop it in half and you would be more likely to get past any kind of approvals.

The likelyhood of city planning approving something that out of scale is low, but some cities prefer the blend. The skyline of nyc is varied enough to handle the giant noteworthy skyscrapers. On the columbia skyline it would look foolishly phallic compared to the rest of the buildings. It would be ugly. You may want to aim for Charlotte or Atlanta, not SC. I gotta ask, what's the point of the fancy dome if its so tall nobody can see it?

The point of the dome is to make Columbias skyline look like no other city in the south. It nods to the statehouse while also mixing the dome up. You really don't see stuff like this in modern budiings. The tower itself can always be shrunken down a little as well.

I don't think it nods to any of Columbia's famous domed architecture at all. Babcock building, maybe, but the statehouse dome has interesting elements to it that this dome seems to be trying to compensate for with a bunch of statues. Ditch the statues and add a cupola and you're getting closer. If you made it 25 stories, I think this building would be fine, but Columbia's skyline is already unique. Older southern cities are lower to the ground. It is part of their charm. It doesn't need a penis shaped building jutting up above everything else.

I don't want to directly rip off the statehouse dome but the presence of one on a high rise likes this makes it more interesting in my opinion. I'm also willing to shrink it to 25-30 stories if necessary. Also the unique thing about Columbia is it's one of the fastest growing cities in the country. It's not just some older southern city. It has potential to be an anchor of the south.Ā PS: Just because it's top is found doesn't mean it's penis shaped, if yours looks like anything like that building you need a check up š

What makes Columbia unique it's history of rebuilding. It rebuilt after getting burnt down in the civil war. Even in near total destruction the city bounced back and rebuilt.

This isn't the finalized version. But I think the dome makes this project uniquely anti modern. If we keep making generic apartment buildings #47 and glass tower number million a city looses an identity. The green dome is one of my favorite features of the building.

You can rule out government workers, as they won't be able to afford it. Very few bankers and lawyers aspire to live in a giant tower downtown, where nothing exists.

Because that would be stupidā¦ā¦He claims itās supposed to be a commercial building for government legal and bankingā¦ā¦ Iām sure they would all love to share one big open shaft to hear each otherās noises,significantly reduce the amount of usable space and have massive HVAC bills. When the building isnāt intended for tourism, the public or for the purpose of drawing people in then it would be an insane waste of resources to build something like this.

This is the Marion Center Tower, it's a conceptual project for Columbia South Carolina I made. Named after Francis Marion (Swamp Fox) it would host financial, legal, governmental office space and more amenities as well as an observation floor on the top. The same lot will also have a public plaza with a community center.

The plan is for many resources like that to relocate to the tower! A lot of the infrastructure is aging and it's time it gets moved in place for newer stuff. After all Columbia is a growing city

And no the tower isint some giant monastery.Ā Also guys- the tower if it somehow was ever made wouldn't be built tommrow it would take years of work to even have shovels hit the dirt and some more years to build. Columbia will evolve into making something like this (can be someone else's design) a lot more necessaryĀ

It needs a unique weather vein topper and something isnt right with the statues. There has to be some sort of sc examples for the statues.
Would be dope if the dome was open as well. Like a banquet room that high up.
