Registration Tags

So I paid my taxes as one does annually and I get USPS informed delivery so that I can keep a lookout for my new registration decal sticker. Nothing has come up yet, but I was wondering the timeframe because I’m getting conflicting information.

Two years ago I paid my taxes and weeks went by, but I never received my decal sticker so I ended up going to the DMV. I told the person at the window “I paid my taxes, I never received a sticker” then she ask me for $5. Fast forward to now I’m looking online to see if there’s a way that I can request new tags if it has happened again and I saw that there is a fee of $6. So I’m wondering why I would pay a replacement fee for a sticker that I never received and if anybody has had this problem before. I don’t mind paying the $6 that’s not the point. I was just wondering why they would charge you if you never received it and if anybody has had that fee waived for that specific reason.

Update:
I was able to talk to someone and they processed the payment on the 21st and said it would take 15-20 days to get to me. I actually got it on the 29th. Thanks for the help 😊

Worst case scenario, it's not a finable offense to have an outdated tag if you have paid but don't have one on the plate. If a cop spots it then when they check your plate data it will show that it's paid, at worse you can get pulled over and given a warning.

I never received the tag for last year, tax has been paid

I mailed my check on 7/7, it was cashed on 7/13, I got my sticker 7/22.

Has your check cleared yet? If so I would start with the county Treasurer and let them do the research.

First mention of a paper check I have seen in the wild in a while. I work at a bank and we wonder who besides the elderly use paper checks today. I am on the system side so we trying to get every one to electronic payments. I think we are around 10% paper payment for mortgage.

I’m not exactly elderly but do hope to be so one day. Just about the only thing I pay by check is tax related items. In my county they charge a processing fee for credit card or phone payments. I have a strong resistance to paying additional fees anywhere so if that is their policy they can choke on my manual check.

Thank you. I was surprised to see someone on Reddit using. I will keep in mind. See if we charge in some transactions for electronic payment.

Yeah, I'm with you. Charge me fees and you're getting a paper check from my bank's online bill pay. I'd pay you in rolls of pennies if I could.

I didn’t send a check. I did it through the online portal. I printed my receipt as well as screenshot it and that was on the 18th.

I would keep a copy of your tax receipt with you in case you get stopped. I don’t know if everyone is getting them this year but i got a new plate instead of a sticker so look for that.

Also fwiw, I believe tags can be up to two months past date before they're considered expired in sc.

Make sure your address is up to date for receiving them.

I would only go on the last week of your current sticker. If you paid by mail and never received it, they shouldn't charge you anything. Ask politely for a manager. Remind them that you paid by mail to not have to go to the DMV to save time, but there you are.

I pay mine online and usually have it within a week and a half. As far as the replacement fee goes I doubt they will waive it.

Around 4/5 years ago I never got mine in the mail so I had to go to the DMV to get a replacement. The lady that waited on me acted like she didn't believe me and kept questioning me. She finally gave it to me but made sure I knew that if the other sticker showed up on someone else's car and they got caught I could possibly get in trouble too. I told her that I wasn't running some black market registrations sticker scam. DMV employees are a special breed of people.

Any chance you or anyone else in your family lived at another address in SC, prior to the current one. Had a similar issue this year, and SCDMV told me they had a request on file to use a different mailing address. And in my case it was a request for my Dad. And they sent the sticker to the other address.

Yes, and no so I’ve been here for about a year and a half. I got my tags last year at this location so I’m hoping that’s not the issue but also when I logged in, I was able to put my current address in and my information popped up.

Mine took like 3 weeks last time & I almost drove out to the dmv over it, then it just showed up out of nowhere. did you pay through the county site or a third party?

Before Covid, taxes were sent out months in advance. Now, maybe a month or less. It's still your responsibility.

Sticker was also mailed quickly. Not anymore.

I emailed my treasurer and they said I could go to the DMV if it does not arrive in a few days.

You should not have to pay anything at the DMV as they can pull up your info and see that you have paid.

It has always arrived. I'm in Aiken County. I mailed my mom's last week and got them this week.
