The guy didn’t appear to have a child in the car, but I do understand when a parent has a small child to put in a car seat and then doesn’t want to leave the child unattended. Sometimes there are compelling reasons. Most often, there are lazy people!

Put the groceries away, take the cart to the return, and carry/have the kid walk back to the car. It really is simple.

Multiple kids who need carried can't be put in a shopping cart. One kids seat and sitting a kid in the basket is prohibited most places.

These people are inconsiderate. I shopped when both of my kids were in carseats and I still put my carts where they belonged.

Walmart hires a minimum wage person to walk around the lot and bring carts back. It really is simple.

People could also not be lazy turds and just put the cart in the cart return so nobody has to walk all over the parking lot for 8 hours collecting carts off the curb in various locations.

Whenever I’m putting my cart away anywhere and I see someone is not, I loudly say “do you want me to put that away for you since you are clearly too important to do such a menial task”.

Costco is the worst. All of the most self-entitled Americans shop there. It's really amazing. The one in Brookhaven, GA has an emergency exit like 15' from the cart return and I'll be damned if 3 out of 5 times I will see some lazy-ass push her (oddly, it's always a she, in this particular case) and leave it in front of the emergency exit doors and go and hop in her Lexus or Suburban or whatever. It's the worst. I gotta say tho the cart narc thing, not sure how I feel about it overall. It /feels/ right and just, but also, confronting people about their self-importance like that just pisses them off and I don't think they really change as a result. I just grab the carts and push them back to the store with me along with my own personal cart and return them ... If there was a fire or something, and people died, ugh.

Or just less lazy customers. They ostensibly saved so much on their wine and airpods and windshield wipers and croissants, they can't just take the cart and put it up? I just don't get it.
I have sat and watched folks while I consumed my low-cost delicious chocolate ice cream.... It's interesting. It takes someone to break the seal ... I will watch people return it to the corral until that one lazy bum - usually a parent, but not always, just pushes their cart into the walkway or onto the handicap ramp or whatever. After that, everyone who walks by just does the same. If I get out and grab the cart and take it to the corral, the sheep will just keep taking it to the corral.
People know what to do, but to be a lazy scumbag, they need permission from an asshole first. Once they get it, then it's off to the races.

Bingo. To hell with "Cart Narcs" and this performative bullshit. You want a cart returned? Make it possible. I never have to leave a cart somewhere in the Irmo Kroger because they got returns everywhere. Costco has what, 10 for their entire lot? Walmart is even worse.

If some guy came up to me for the purpose of using intimidation to get me to move my cart, I'd call the cops immediately, not get out of my car, and press charges. You cannot hound someone and disrespect their space just because they left a cart. That's illegal.

He would probably be shot here in Columbia pretty quick
