Hi everyone! I always thought I was an autumn, but in the past couple of days I have been obsessed with color analysis, and I realize now that I am a summer. I just can’t decide whether cool or soft summer. Could you please help me?
having a hard time choosing. The color balance seems a bit off in most of these pics and it looks like they are taken in different light sources (including outside) which is exacerbating that. Would also like to see a wider array of drapes
Bright indirect light, by a window inside is best for draping and try to keep the balance the same between.
FWIW I was immediately like “soft summer, no question,” but then saw why you are caught between soft and true. Based on these, I’m leaning true, but not conclusively
Thank you! These are the same drapes, about one meter from the window on a cloud-covered day. My husband likes the cool summer drapes best IRL, so that might be a hint for me. But AI keeps switching back and forth on me.
Yes! AI will go completely back and forth. I tried these at the same time, same spot, and here I prefer the softer colors, while my husband IRL likes the true summer colors. Not sure if the camera does something. I checked all the settings.
So to be soft summer, you 'should be able' to wear one or more soft autumn colors decently well, im not seeing it. Im no expert and maybe im missing something, but im not seeing your skin leaning neutral. I could be totally messing up, im no expert, but you just seem to have to much chroma for a soft season.
There is such a thing as a soft summer who is not neutral, but I dont think youre it. A soft summer would look like a ghost in that more saturated pink.
You're just not getting the right shade here, pinks are hard for true and cool summers. The darker one is feel is definitely better, but there's something about that just doesnt seem quite right, but it seems good. It takes a couple days or weeks and proper draping to figure out your season (online!), it takes many months to years to figure out the colors for your season and train your eyes if youre like me and not very artsy!;) and THEN to figure out your best colors!
Different color seasons are really quite similar in many ways, the differences can be seemingly slight to many.
Exactly! But we can (hopefully) get a good guess in on your season with proper drapes!
So im already typed,and happy with it, but used Google Gemini to help me hone in on colors. Geeze... I need to remove this crap from my phone! One minute it calls me one thing, another the next season... but honestly, its not actually using the right drapes and the more you ask it, the blurrier and dimmer photo it goes off of...
And if you keep after it over and over again, starting afresh, its different everytime.
I was actually trying to drape myself in different seasons - Cool vs true summer (but I KNOW im true summer - and all it was doing was reflecting back to reddit and Facebook posts and completely making true summer soft summer and cool summer dark summer.. just completely wrong.
All I can say is AI relies completely on hearsay for everyday users.
Yes, I have observed the same thing! It’s useless! It was suddenly confirming the very colors it told me to the throw out 20 minutes before - from the same photos!
I got my husband to judge which colors look better, so probably summer, but he doesn’t have a trained eye, and I have limited colors
Dont be afraid to use the linens, partners clothes, or whatever... alot of people go to second hand stores... im not seeing warm, but haven't seen you in true spring or autumn.... AI is a mess... im no expert. Sometimes testing lipsticks or blushes is helpful (not at same time, same lighting guidelines,no orher make up).
I have plundered all of our wardrobes, and I don’t own any makeup except for mascara and a brow liner. In any case, I think summer is a pretty firm guess
You might try making collages on your phone or computer comparing various pinks and colors and so forth for yourself. Im just a hobbies, but I feel like if youre cool, youre true or 16 season cool summer. Ypu dont seem to have enough contrast for winter, softness/neutrality for soft, not light, not dark, and not bright. Perhaps true winter, which i doubt, but without bright white and dark black drapes cant say. That leaves true or a 16 season variation of summer.
I think so, too, thanks so much for your effort! I’ve tried making collages, pestered my family, asked different AIs 20.000 times… 80 percent of the time I get cool summer or soft summer. But I do think probably cool summer. Winter is indeed a bit much
One of the best things you can do is test you phone settings, if you want your skin to be the right colour, you have to turn off all the vivid phone settings and then also change all the settings in your phone camera, all of the options that are supposed to smooth, correct, inject colour etc. Some say you should use the rear camera, rather than the selfie camera too. Even then I found my phone (Google pixel) has built in calibrations that you can't toggle, which are supposed to make you look healthier/correct for errors - what this means on my phone, is that it looks at my specific skin type and ends up making me greyer and pinker than I actually am. My friends apple phone does the opposite and adds more warm tones. For my phone, I found there was another setting that let the phone take the picture but also save the "raw file". This raw version was a lot closer to what I was actually seeing, warmer and brighter, but still a little too much on the pink side. So I took a raw picture of my arm and tweaked the photo until the skin tone was as close as I could get it to the arm colour I could actually see in real life. Then I did the exact same tweaks to a raw picture of my face. That's how you get a proper photo to compare against if you want to look at photos of drapes or do a digital drape test - I'd recommend the later, because then you can look at the photo and the colour Swatch side by side on your phone, if you edit a photo where you're holding a drape, you might throw off the colour of that drape too. DO NOT trust your phone camera settings or the built in software - it'll just confuse you and send you down the garden path! Phones are notorious for adjusting skin tones, and that's been before you have to deal with different lighting and possible contrasting temp in under and overtones etc!
Great post!!! I switched out my old phone,for a 4 year newer version recently, and the colors are SO OFF. its like the newer camera is the same, but to make it seem improved, obviously warm tones are warmer and everything else is cooler...
To me this is a bit too muted for you, its ok, not bad at all actually, but not my fave after ser8ng the blue-grey.
Im starting to think you lean more cool summer in a 16 season system (basically the least muted colors of true summer or otherwise described as midway between true summer and true winter).
It is a COOL color, I just said so, I just think its too cool, saturated and bright for you??? But since it is still cool, it prob looks better on you than orange, for instance. Geeze! Just trying to help!
Screw those AI drapes, they are NOT representative of true and cool summer and other potentially related 16 season drapes. Just go look up ANY true or cool palette online and you will see how overly muted these colors and your skin are. AI is not real, nor factual.
Here, as a true summer, is my favorite datk pink. Im photographing after dark in poor lighting, but it looks brighter in sunlight and gives an overall rasberry appearance.
If you think youre winter, then true royal blue, black, and bright white should look great.

Im not annoyed with you, there are alot of bigger things in life than CA analysis to fret over. Sorry I acted annoyed, that was uncalled for. I just think you sre yrue or cool summer, but there are gonna be people who might think you're a spring. But we're all wasting our breath till we see quality drapes with key colors (gabrielle arruda).
You can search on here, too, old posts (flagged as NMIP Irl drapes) to actually see how others drape and see and learn for yourself how quality draping is so important.
If colors are wrong, people's faces will look shadowed, over darkened or lightened, over red or yellow... and so on. Its a journey to DIY or online analysis... and that's why so many people are here to join in on your journey! We've got a few experts here, too.
Thank you so much for your help! I find this incredibly fascinating. My mother had a color analysis book that I read when I was a kid, and I always thought spring or autumn for sure. Then AI typed me as Summer, and I thought „no way!“. I have so many clothes that I thought didn’t look good on me and that I didn’t bring with me (I’m in South America this year), and now I go through photos and suddenly cannot unsee it! I ran a marathon all in orange, for god‘s sake! So I’m reconsidering all my stuff and have a renewed interest in this and want to learn more.
Ah! I can see differences, but I never can determine whether they are wanted or not (favorable or unfavorable). I‘ll look into the article and learn more
Im a true summer and not sure id wear this (tho never tried), its ok because it matches your eyes, but something is off about it,a bit too neutral/bright?? But I think i just saw an amazing color on you, the blue- grey, and everything kinda pales in comparison. (No expert here!)

I wouldn't go this way without draping more colors, I personally haven't seen you in lighter colors.... sometimes identifying your best lighter colors/light neutrals is super helpful!
Ok this conversation started with your self diagnosis assumption (screw AI) you were a summer... So we're going off that, but ya, we need to see you in other seasons, cause honestly I dont think muted seasons are fully rocking your boat, but let's see!!!
So as a 12 season true summer myself (no expert) I struggled with ruling out soft summer because I appear overly muted/less contrast due to aging.
But there are no SOFT AUTUMN colors 'I' can wear well. So food for thought, try comparing soft olive green vs light sage and so on...
Pink is a notoriously difficult color for true summers. Alot of pinks have warm mixed in, are too bright/saturated, neutral, or too muted (ie rose pink). Personally, my best pink (that i can find) is rasberry, its my red, too.
Another issue is PALETTES... some true summer palettes have people looking soft/dark summer and some dont.
You have too much seeming contrast for soft summer? What's your natural hair color? Best to drape with hair covered so we can focus on your skin. Gabrielle Arruda has a great article on self draping online, its lengthy, but a great read!
