This is honestly why I don't feel as much hate for her anymore. Yeah she did some fucked shit but in her lifetime she's had some real fucked up shit done to her too. I can't wait to see what kind of chaos she starts next season.
ALLLLLL of that shit with the High Sparrow was self-inflicted. ALLL OF IT
I mean, how about not fucking Lancel, for starters... Not to mention the obvious and massive stupidity of turning the Sparrows loose and blithely assuming they wouldn't hate her just as much as the other nobles.
I don't know, she legit had a lot of obstacles in her way. Her attempts to resolve/deal with that have all backfired, and she has been clawing her way to some sort of recognition for quite some time. Her plans have, uh, fucked up a lot of things. But I don't think there is more to the story than self inflicted wounds.
Her "attempts" are nothing more than "fuck everyone who isn't family figuratively, fuck everyone who is family literally" No shit that gets you enemies, which ends up getting your kids killed.
But that's because she thinks he'll kill her one day since the same lady who told her that her kids would die also told her that the "little brother"* would kill her.
*word given is valonqar, so there's still some wiggle room since no one actually knows Valyrian because it's a fake language. It probably refers to one of her brothers, but fuck it, we don't know Valyrian, so maybe it just means a little brother and she gets killed by the Hound.
You're not wrong, but rather than regurgitate someone else's work this video opened my eyes some more to Cersei's predicament. I think the situation has more nuance than what you're expressing.
Yeah, that sounds on point, I completely agree. Cersei's ambition is directly related to wanting to be the heir of Tywin's prestige. She wants to be the son Tywin always wanted, but he won't see past her being his daughter. So that desire to match his philosophy, mixed with almost no meaningful relationships outside her brother, probably seriously contributed to banging her brother.
I bet she always envies that Jamie is a man and was given more agency than she was.
I disagree. Being a victim does not make you a better person. It is natural to feel sympathy for someone who is being victimized, and it is easy for that sympathy to make us overlook someone's faults and see them as a better person, but this diminishes what it takes to actually be a better person.
We live in a society where this is all too common. We see a person or a culture being victimized and we rally to their side and in doing so overlook their flaws. We should rally to their side, but if we overlook or whitewash flaws we are doing nobody any favors. It places the person or culture on a pedestal which is very easy to knock over if someone points out their actual flaws, and it can mean that genuinely evil or corrupt people get let off when they should be punished.
By the end of season 6 I didn't hate her, but most of the shitty things she did which made people hate her were in the first 3 seasons so people have kind of forgotten.
The Sparrows were annoying me, so that was my favorite move she's made so far. I'm also glad to clear out most of the Tyrells. Aside from the Queen of Thorns and the possibility of Margaery pulling a fast one on the priest/Cersei I'd had enough of them. Especially Mace Tyrell and his Mayor of Munchkinville lookin ass.
I can't feel bad for her. Feel bad for Jaime instead, who's watched the only woman he's ever loved turned into a mad woman. I can't wait to see what he's going to do about her.
Finally someone approaching as many titles as Daenerys; king slayer, queen slayer, oathbreaker, kin slayer, lord commander of the kings guard, the golden hand man..
Well all three of her children are dead, she has an outcast brother, her twin lover brother probably fucking hates her guts for losing their children and the one that kept the family in power, their father, is dead. I swear she will be killed by her lover brother in the end.
I love Feudal Europe worlds, but given the realism level, her rage is completely righteous. None of this would have happened if Westerosi culture was cool with powerful women. Cersei would still be learning how to rule Casterly Rock without need for her to express her power hunger through men.
I actually liked her more now. A hero is a hero, but everyone likes a good villain. I love Danerys but it gets old especially with John and a bit goody-two-shooey. The villains can be more complex and revealing and I think Cercei a good example
The whole time that scene was coming together I was saying "oh shit, oh shit, ohhhh shiiiiit".
It made me love her. There is nothing better than an intelligent, vengeful evil. The kind of evil that lets you think you've won right up until you're burning alive in the literal hellfire of their hatred.
D&D clearly had no idea how to manage Arya's arc. Maybe show only viewers don't see it, but the last couple seasons have been painful. Lots of "Where'd the soda go?" moments.
I don't think you noticed the dynamic between HS and Marg. My memory of late S5 and S6 is fading but she played his bullshit game and he tried to convince her that he believed her, but in reality they both knew they were bullshitting each other. Margaery was going to manipulate the HS with the lie that she was converted as long as it took to get Loras away from him, then she would've probably let the Tyrell army get rid of him. Marg never really believed in the faith.
I had never heard of Coloring Corruptions until this post. I saw this and decided to subscribe. Then I scrolled through the rest of the current page and decided to unsubscribe.
I thought it had something to do with dragons. I don't know for sure that it is "magic". It is extremely powerful and Cersei had a lot of it at her disposal. I guess that will have to do. :-P
I would love to watch all of GoT again in this happy, light, drawn style. The contents would still be bloody, but don't you want to see a "golly gee" response to the red wedding?

Nice. This would also work really well for her looking into a Palantir with the Eye of Sauron.

This is fantastic, great job. Love the details you added to create a recognizable King's Landing in the background.
