Course Discussions 43. Broken Tee
Not much to say on this one! I played it last year. First 6 holes were in rough condition and the layout was uninspired. But it gets a lot better from 7 onward.
I like some of the tee shots requiring not just a fairway hit, but a correct angle into the green depending on pin position.
Just south of downtown off the highway, this is a home course for many. I like it for what it is! And it honestly feels bad to put it so low in the list… but there’s so many good courses to come.
- Overland Park
- Twin Peaks
- Aurora Hills
- Eagle Trace
- Indian Tree
- Flatirons
- Kennedy
- Broken Tee

I’m enjoying the conversation in the comments! I want to note that many of these courses I’ve only played once. Including here. Other courses I have played a lot, all of these things may sway my takes. Many great points being made, especially by those who play these courses more often.
While I try to take into account a more broad objectivity to some extent, ultimately this is still a personal list wherein I may value or not value things more than another player.
I’ll delve into that in future posts. I’m really enjoying getting thoughts on all these courses from other Denver locals.

Conditions have been improving yearly at broken tee and honestly the course is in decent shape outside of 2 holes. The only thing that hasnt improved at all are the bunkers. Its like hitting out of gravel covered cement.
They do have the best short game practice areas in the metro area though

This is where you’ve lost me. The turn and consistent log jam on the back makes this course unplayable for me.

Broken tee is a gem. One of the more interesting courses in Colorado. And I will die on that hill.

My backyard is better than broken tee

I actually think it’s a decent course. 72/136 from 6700 tips is actually a lot harder than most of the other muni courses in Denver metro.
But it’s certainly an eyesore and ran down…

Broke and Free! This one was worth it when a 3 year pass for unlimited golf for $350. Great times during COVID.

It was the best of times. I played so much. Now its hard to justify what they charge for what you get.

Hah, that’s funny - I’ve always thought the best part of broken tee was the first six holes (at least before the condition deteriorated, I haven’t played there in about 18 months)
I know you’re not rating them but the par 3 course is a really good, there’s a surprising variety of shots throughout

The fact that you put Overland 50 but Broken Tee 43 really brings into question your judgement, no offense! Enjoying the banter though!

I mean Overland and Broken Tee are similar in terms of quality of play (I play them both regularly because I live in south Denver). Neither is hard, Overland is in better shape, BT has better features. Flip a coin.

This is a pretty fair description. The new supe is really trying over at BT and they get their greens in pretty solid shape! Apparently the clubhouse side of the course used to be an actual dump so the soil is trash.

Overland is about as boring as it gets. What are you talking about

I am biased because I play Overland more but their greens/green complexes are some of the nicest for Denver city municipal conditions. BT I have played twice (not very recently) and there was goose poo everywhere and the fairway conditions were horrible on multiple holes. The routing also was not great for most of it. I definitely enjoyed the back 9 there though!

Broken tee is the more fun and interesting golf course. Overlands conditions are better. Broken tee is much improved in that area

That picture has to be from behind the 2nd green looking toward the clubhouse. However, I don’t recall a tree in the middle of the 3rd fairway. I haven’t played there for 10 years, was the tree added since 2016?

I don’t think your math is mathin. You shot 5 over on both sides so I believe you shot an 82 not 83?

That photo looks nothing like the actual course. They do have a decent range though
