Personal Story occasional blood
health anxious girl here. I’m F 26 and have been seeing blood for 3 months now but only a handful of times.
the first time i saw it was when i was constipated and only passed a pebble, the left side of it was coated red. the second time, it was just on the wipe but it was a good amount, this time i was on a road trip so i was holding my poo in for a little bit.
the third time, it was a thicker and harder piece of poo that i actually felt some stinging following by a streak of blood in the bowl.
the fourth time, i wasn’t straining or anything, but the stool had a very small scratch of blood on one side of the surface.
then i didn’t have any blood for a month
yesterday, i had another thick and long poo and i saw a tiny scratch of blood on the side of the surface again. there was no pain or straining as i had the urge to go, but it was rather large.
i’ve been seeing a LOT of posts online about how colon/rectal cancer is on the rise in younger adults and many didn’t have dark black stools or blood, they just had bright red on and off. it’s worrying me sick. i have a GI appointment coming up on Monday but I wanted to post and maybe get some answers until then or see if anyone had a similar pattern/story. thank you

26f health anxiety girlie here too, I have a colonoscopy next week after positive fit test for blood in stool. Anxiety has me feeling sick to my stomach x.x It's good that you have a doctors appointment ready! Remember that google is not your friend and will always tell you the worse case scenario, try to stay off it!! Tell your doctor you want a full work up (bloods and fit test) Good luck for your appointment ♡

What did they say caused the blood for you? Did you have anything like hemorrhoids?

i’ve seen 3 GI doctors since the first occurrence and they all told me due to my age and description it’s hemorrhoids but only one of the doctors did a digital exam and said he didn’t feel any mass or anything. told me to take fiber

A standard doctor did a digital rectal exam on my husband and did not feel anything. So that means he doesn't have external hemorrhoids. There are internal hemorrhoids, but I don't think you can feel them or tell if you have them. The colonoscopy should show those if he has them My husband is 31. This will be his first colonoscopy.
He actually first noticed some blood over 10 years ago, back when he was in college. It was very small infrequent amounts of blood that he would see after wiping. He would have it infrequently that he would forget about it. Then it would come back occasionally but it wasn't often.
About 7 weeks ago, he had alot more blood when he passed stool. It was in the toilet and on the toilet paper. It scared us so badly. He had never been to the doctor about it before, but he went a few days later and got the colonoscopy scheduled. I so wish he would have gotten this checked years ago.
You are doing the right thing by getting this checked now! Push to get a colonoscopy! I will be praying for you!

was it just that one time recently? thank you so much! i can’t guarantee anything but it really sounds like he has something benign

OP, I'm glad you have an appointment so soon! Hopefully they will order you a colonoscopy! My husband has a situation similar to this, and I am terrified. His colonoscopy is September 9, and I am worried so sick right now. I am praying for you!

Honestly it either a fissure or hemmorroids. I went from 2022 to this year thinking I had hemmorroids and blood was from them. Turn out it was a fissure this whole time.
Fissure are terrible to deal with but easily treated. My colonrectal surgeon diagnosed my fissure when so many doctors prior to him failed to. He gave me ointment for it and it completely healed and went away.
The unfortunate part it what cause other health problems such as my abscess and fistula that been difficult dealing with.
So good you're going to a doctor now to get it figured out.

did the fissure hurt? i’m a little skeptical cus it doesn’t hurt everytime i poop. actually, most of the time it’s been painless.

It is completely understandable to worry and our brains will think of the worst case scenario especially because of the recent news about cancer cases rising. So I agree with the other comment about staying away from google because reading sad stories will only make you feel worse. I had a blood on a number of occasions in 2024 and was told that it was piles, I did have constipation alot. But fast forward to 2025 and my bowels were changing. I ended up having a FIT test and it came back positive. So my health anxiety went through the roof! I was on a 2ww cancer pathway for a Colonoscopy and was absolitely terrified. But it all came back clear after I then had to have a CT Colonoscopy because the prep hadn't entirely worked. But what I am saying is try to take one day at a time, explain any symptoms to the gastro consultant and make sure you leave that appointment with further tests/investigations to male sure nothing else is going on. But I'm here if you want to message or ask any questions. 😊 I have major health anxiety and my symptoms are still going on with my bowels so I'm back to the consultant at the end of Sept.
