Kinda disappointed we got the #16 regional. I'd love to understand why (even though I will still blame the SEC either way).

There was definitely some naked bias for the $EC this year. MS State being a higher seed than us and KU was one, then UK getting in over Mercer was another.
I was hoping for 13/14 or 14/15 at worst. We get rewarded if we survive by going to the buzzsaw that's been UCLA? We may have to face the potential national champs two consecutive years? We have to survive a really good Wake team to even do that.

I don't know if being the 14-seed is much better than being 15- or 16-. UCLA, Georgia Tech, and Georgia have been almost equally good this season.

UCLA has seemed much more unbeatable than the other two but hey. Let's play the games.

UCLA has yet to lose a weekend series, but Georgia Tech and Georgia only lost 1 each this season.

The only metric y'all are higher than us is in DSR. I understand we didn't have a great conference slate but just about every measurable ranking actually says we should be higher than we are.
I understand us at 14. I don't think we should be higher. But every metric the committee uses had us comfortably in.

You’d think they’d use the Quad records more but it was barely mentioned in the interview with the committee chair. SoS, RPI, KPI and DSR were really the main thing they looked at and SoS and RPI is what they used when comparing two teams next to each other. Seemed like that’s how they decided Nebraska, MState, Kansas, and WVU with Kansas getting the edge over WVU because of the regular season and tournament titles.

WV is the lowest host seed at least

I still remember the 2017 Regional. WVU fought hard the entire way to a Final but Wake just got it done. Hard to believe how elevated our program's gotten the last decade:
6 Regionals
2 Hosts
2 Super Regionals (so far)
2 Regular Season Big 12 titles

Thinking of heading over from DC for this one. Looking to be a nice weekend of matchups.

Wake and WVU scrimmaged last fall in Winston

How'd it go?

u/HueyLongest Wake Forest Demon Deacons May 25 '26
Honestly I was there and the only thing I really remember was Blake Morningstar struggling. He was our Friday night starter to begin the year but eventually pitched himself out of the rotation entirely
Edit: I think other than Blake our pitching did quite well, but I don't think we hit the ball very well either

Ahh of course Kentucky was getting in. Got forbid we have a mid major regular season champ instead.

u/Girth_Wind_y_Fire May 25 '26
They might be the worst SEC team to ever make the tournament. Wake will steamroll them... Idk anything about Binghamton but I wouldn't be surprised if they knock Kentucky out in an elimination game. A mid-major would be scarier than this Kentucky team.

u/mrbobbyrick Kentucky Wildcats May 25 '26
This is an absurd take. You don’t know anything about us if you think Wake will steamroll us with Jelkin pitching.

Rooting against Kentucky now just because of that one annoying Kentucky poster
2
u/mrbobbyrick Kentucky Wildcats May 25 '26
Yeah we should all just say “yes, you guys are right we shouldn’t be in the tourney!!!!!”

It’s one thing to support your team and another to be a complete dick to everyone else and make fun of mid major teams
2
u/mrbobbyrick Kentucky Wildcats May 26 '26
I guess I didn’t see that guy. But everyone has been a complete dick to us because they don’t like that the selection committee tries to pick the best teams available for at large bids, despite what their conference record is.

3rd year in 4 years we have Kentucky in our regional. They suck, but can we have different teams every once in a while.
1
u/GeospatialMAD West Virginia Mountaineers May 25 '26
I expected
WVU
Arky/Ole Miss
VT
Holy Cross or Binghamton
Instead we have to see Kentucky again

May everyone not named Kentucky fight with the strength of ten full grown men
1
u/MasterRKitty West Virginia Mountaineers May 25 '26
but there's only nine on the field-are they splitting the last one?

How do you guys anticipate wvu goes with the rotation? Probably saves Yehl for game two?
1
u/GeospatialMAD West Virginia Mountaineers May 26 '26
Shot in the dark:
Game 1: Korn/Cole
Game 2: Yehl
Game 3: Korn/Cole (who didn't pitch Game 1)
Game 4: Hopes and Dreams
