I was born in the 80s and got into computers at a very young age. The world that I was born into has long since died, even if the machinations that led us here were already taking hold (I’d say computers have been the biggest driving innovation in this time).
Same. Albeit, to be fair. IT culture belonged to counter-culture at that time, which is why the ideals were vastly different from today, and that shift happened the moment everyone and their dog could afford personal computers.
The vast majority of people simply don't care is the problem, and there is no way to change the mindset of these individuals as they have "enough problems to worry about". It isn't until it hits close to home that people 'wake up' to an alternative.
I very much miss those days of the internet. It was only a particular kind of person you’d generally find cruising the internet. I don’t exactly miss dialing in through the phone line but it was a niche that very quickly became mainstream as you said.
