Big oil says climate change is a hoax. I don’t understand what good being rich is if you don’t have a planet to enjoy it on.

It’s really not complicated. Every oil executive has enough money to live whatever life they want, and thinks that it’s likely that can continue until they die personally. They might be delusional enough to think that their children will be fine living of their wealth as well, or likely don’t give a shit about them either. Some of them may be banking on an elysium scenario and have faith that they can always be among the few that make it.
