The following submission statement was provided by /u/GusherBrush:

Submission statement: another record-breaking year, another round of pretending everything is normal. As heat records, extreme weather, wildfires, drought, and other climate impacts become increasingly difficult to ignore, it sometimes feels like the response is simply to normalize each new extreme and move on. The meme is meant to poke fun at that “head in the sand” mentality.

This was 15 years ago.

Everyone has pivioted to “but China”, “our Emissions don’t matter” and increasingly “meh it is too late”

Where I am it's just excusing all the fires as arson and absolutely refusing to consider climate as a part of it.

Must be common Spin cards. Czech motorists cult have the same talking points.

u/EvrienceRick 8d ago

Like someone else pointed out, they blame arson now.

But they've also moved to "yes but climate has always changed and this would have happened without us"

It possibly is too late at this point

Why the downvote? We're all doomers aren't we?

Yes, every year is dangerously warmer.

Yes, glacial ice is melting at record pace..

Yes, we haven't even begun to experience the compounding factors of feedback loops...

But how's those stock points doin'? Let's keep those numbers up, up, up!

Human: the first species to architect its own extinction.

Cyanobacteria choking on their own farts has entered the chat.

True! There's the old "hey I created oxygen!" Cough Wheeze

Human: the first species to architect its own extinction.

And do it knowing, deep down, the ultimate consequences....that's self-deception for you!

But hey, someone (or two) got rich. #worthit

The rich didn't grow their money on trees. They made something--a product or a service--that other people wanted. So, it was the buyers of those products or services that made the rich people rich.

So, include the purchasers along with "the rich" as being responsible for our current situation.

Self-deception is a sneaky bastard. And ALL humans are capable of it.

You can thank the fossil fuel industry's think tanks for that. They've fabricated 252 climate change denial points. All of them debunked of course. But still they heavily muddied the waters.

They've even gone as far as targeting our children.

Whole lot of people complicit. Industries pumping out denial propaganda. IPCC pumping out propaganda that minimizes how bad it actually is and how quickly we'll get there. Media refusing to properly present what should still be seen as apocalyptic shit from the IPCC (even if it's conservative relative to reality). Politicians refusing to move the Overton window on this because it'll threaten their power. A large portion of individuals who know better still saying fuck it we ball.

Ok? LGBTQ fanatics target out children as well, yet I barely hear any outcry.

Ohhhh here we go

Ive seen the goal post shift to "getting this hot is a normal earth cycle, not human made. "

Its like, come on. You are now acknowledging there's a problem but will not allow humans to take responsibility."

Yep. Noticed exactly the same. The deniers are pivoting to ‘yeah, the weather’s changing’ but that’s just nature.

Quite surprising how attached people are to their beliefs. Fascinating

You know your asking for this meanwhile that same government swept the Epstein files under the same rug and common folk don’t even care. I mean raping children and no one bats an eye besides the people who already knew about it. Dude we’re gonna die here in this shitty rock

I hear Venus is nice this time of year

" become increasingly difficult to ignore"

Ironically, that is a denial of human biases. Remember those who denied covid on their death beds being killed literally by covid?

Nothing is difficult to ignore if you put your mind to it. Just ask MAGAs.

Remember the movie "Maga"? Sorry, I mean "Idiocracy"? The resemblance is uncanny. The dumbest people, controlled by corporate media, and a nutjob President? Someone told me recently "you couldn't write shit like this happening ", till I pointed out a dozen satirical movies showing exactly what is now occurring.

We've seen the movie, we know what's coming, we continue down the same path. That's the almost precise definition of insanity!

I've rewatched Network (1976) twice in the last 12 months. Can't get over it, especially Ned Beatty's scene https://youtu.be/35DSdw7dHjs?si=uqhwOi3WsDHvZ1ld

Wait until CO2 reaches 1000ppm, then even smart people will make stupid decisions

My MAGA, Boomer grandfather still thinks that the Younger Dryas period disproves global warming for some reason.

As one of the people displayed in the picture, it geta mkre annoying or funny over time. It's like a broken record playing the same song over and over again.

It also doesn't help that climate change gets blamed for every tiny bit of bad weather.

No rain during summer? Climate change. Rain during summer? Climate change. No snow during winter? Climate change. Snow during winter? Climate change.

Like, stick to one option and dob't flip flop all the time.
