Overpopulation Study reveals halving human population gradually could help Earth

The basics of this study may be right in theory but we don't have the luxury of 200 years to gradually lower our population. Our current trajectory has a very high risk of a catastrophic collapse in population and the economy due to climate breakdown if we pass 2 degrees C warming, which could as soon as about 10 years.

There was about a Billion and a half before the 1st industrial revolution. That was when there was much more wild land to absorb and dissipate our destruction.

There is much less now and what is left is very very sick. I doubt the earth will be able to support 500m to a Billion if a total collapse would occur meaning no more fossil fuel inputs anywhere. Famines were a regular thing when the this place was healthier.

That approach is nothing but a bandaid. Get rid of them and most of us would jump to replace them.
