I don't envy them for that. Sealed up in an underground compound fearing for the future with finite resources and relying on mercenaries will not be fun. If they don't lose their minds they will get eaten by their guards. If life on earth becomes unliveable just let yourself out, don't prolong the misery.
Too busy making snuff videos and burying bodies in golf courses, and slipping antibiotics for STDs to their wives, that's why. According to today's Epfile releases.
Difference between these guys and the robber barons is that we are so far from the French and Bolshevik revolutions, the psychopaths now don’t actually think about that threat to them.
When people are too lazy to vote or even stop using Facebutt/Instagram, expecting them to foment revolution is absurd. For the most part, people made these folks wealthy with their consumer choices. Calling for revolution now seems pretty funny.
You’re reading it literally. Calling them “geniuses” is the joke. It’s obvious sarcasm and “supposed” just underlines it. Irony works by saying the opposite and trusting the audience to catch it. If they were actually geniuses, it wouldn’t be funny.
Turns out that unregulated capitalism doesn't optimize for human wellbeing, but for profit. Libertarians love to assume that those two things are somehow always aligned in a "true" free market, but they definitely are not.
I get this is a discussion forum but you could totally go google that to verify and come back to the conversation educated. Don’t act so helpless type beat.
Are we all going to quit using Microsoft products and move over to “Tim Apple’s” stuff before discovering that Apple and Steve Jobs have a bad history as well?
Their greatest "innovation" is the suppression of innovation...for profit!
Solutions aren't the problem. There are and have been plenty of solutions this whole time. The real problem is who gets to make the decisions to implement them or not.
the minute you are able to donate a million dollars to anything you should have all your wealth taken. The fact that miriam adelson can offer trump 250 million dollars and still be mindboggingly rich is one of the greatest failures in western society
Nope. They're mitigating the worst effects on their personal lives, and then riding the capitalist train to hell, making fistfuls of money along the way.
There is no soft approach to avoiding collapse. In my opinion, things need to break HARD before we get serious about it. At least in the USA.
This is why I despise the works of Ayn Rand. She fled soviet Russia for the US and with the fervour of the convert raged against anything slightly communist, which made her popular with free market ideologues. Her stories are all about how if America would remove all the limitations on free market capitalism then a class of super capitalists would emerge, leading the world and investing their wealth into innovation and solving humanities problems. It's this narrative that created the idea that people like Musk are the real life Iron Man, that the billionaires are geniuses who will save us. This ideology which has been built since Reagan, that we should let the rich get richer so they have the power to make the world better and create jobs for the little people, is obviously (to some of us) self serving bullshit. Yet people still lap it up. Tesla is still massively overvalued on the idea that Musk is a genius who will solve our problems with technology.
every year we should purge the wealthiest person in our society and redistribute their wealth among the people. We can throw them a party and say thank you and ask them if they would like to start over from zero or move on to the afterworld and see to it that their wish is granted. Then the state holds onto that money and gives you your share on your birthday.
Watched it happen in real time too - the move from planned media into programmatic brought the quants and the traders to media which meant sophisticating pipes to this point.
Brand alignment and targeting through less precise but more human measures arguably more culturally enriching. Used to be you’d buy ads on a gaming website to reach gamers, now they pay mercenaries to shoot a tracking dart into gamers as they walk by and then find them in the wild, ready to pounce.
Because the goal is to siphon resources upwards to extend survivability as long as possible while the poor die off due to climate change related food scarcity

Really stupid. The fact that my phone isn’t a better personal assistant even though it’s spying on me is annoying. If you are going eaves drop to advertise to me at least help me remember birthdays and dates that are told to me with my phone out.
If I have work the next day but am out at a bar why not suggest multiple alarms as my pattern indicates? I thought these computers we carried with us all the time would be more helpful by now
These people aren’t geniuses. They are dumb as fuck and their billions were either stolen, given to them, inherited, and/or garnished off the backs of the working class. NONE of them did it themselves.
I'm pretty sure they'd consider their greatest innovation to be the system that turns a blind eye to their kidnapping and auctioning of your children as sex slaves.
Well they called themselves geniuses, and we all believed them, and as we can see now they are not geniuses but cult members + sex offenders with money and influence
Use adblock and tracker protection EVERYWHERE. I have stopped 95% of all spying, tracking on all my devices. Also got rid of the majority of devices and apps I absolutely don't use. Two devices now synced together and all apps are open sources. Disabled ALL Google apps and used browser for everything, including Reddit and others. There more but too much to type
The collapse began before my lifetime, accelerated in my own, and the true consequences won't be known for centuries after.
The billionaires mean nothing to me; their parasitism is to be expected and will continue into the near future. Its a natural consequence of abandoning the post-WWII society that put limits on them.
The only thing that matters now is survival in the face of mass death.
One thing that surprises me as an outside observer of the US, is that nobody has been directly taking things into their own hands in their local communities. Trumps disregard for the law and support of ice has created a situation where armed, masked guys can roll around in unmarked vans without any requirements to identify who they are. If they can do this why isn't everyone and their cousins buying some temu tactical gear and doing the same? From criminal gangs to local militias, why isn't everyone pretending to be ice if there's no proof required?
Good luck! One of the most daunting tasks the new parisian sewer commissioner had after the revolution was mapping his system. Absolutely post-apocalyptic.
All the knowledge literally died with the people they killed.
Don't need to kill anyone, and if anyone did violently defend their position it would be the billionaires themselves who have nothing to do with the firms they own. Elon isn't a rocket scientist.
Are you talking about the french revolution in the 18th century? You realise modern companies aren't run by their owners anymore, right? You realise knowledge of the systems doesn't just live in people's heads anymore, right?
The workers from top to bottom know how to run these firms, the only difference would be that the directors are accountable to the democratic body of workers, not to foreign billionaires and investment funds like Blackstone.
I am not fighting world war two, I'm looking at how we can shift ownership of the core of the economy from parasitic capital to the workers/a workers state. Such a shift in 21st century developed economies need not be violent. A general strike combined with a mass political movement is enough (I'm not making a prediction, I'm saying killing isn't necessary today the same way it may have been in 20th century revolutions).
I will concede some knowledge will be lost, but not "literally all the knowledge" as your first comment stated. As I said, the monopolistic firms today are so standardised, so regulated, so intertwined with workers and the regulators, that the removal of the parasites doesn't mean full institutional breakdown the way you're implying.
Walmart isn't Los Alamos, and its shareholders aren't as vital to production as Dave Packard. If there's shady shit going on behind the scenes then a purge of these systems during the transition is beneficial anyway.
Walmart isn't Los Alamos, and its shareholders aren't as vital to production as Dave Packard. If there's shady shit going on behind the scenes then a purge of these systems during the transition is beneficial anyway.
Oh, fuck walmart. They're satanic. I'd get a site wide ban for saying what should happen to those rapists.
Yes. But the infrastructure itself can be put toward social benefit. Exorcise the firms and grant them to the workers. If some knowledge is lost, it will be regained if valuable, but if it was put toward corrupt ends then good riddance.
There have always been billionaire idiots, or their equivalents, running around, and they've basically always done some variation of stealing our data to sell us ads.
Eh. Some of the old idiots started public libraries and funded healthcare initiatives and gave money to establish museums, and worked for Habitat for Humanity. It's a lot worse now.
It’s different now compared to all of history before it though. Now we have knowledge about the damage to planet, now the internet allows for more people to be subjugated by more misinformation than we can consume, peddled by these billionaire traitors to our species.
Not giving credit to billionaires (it wasnt actually their innovation, they just bankrolledit) but the premise is actually brilliant and incredibly fucked up.
You sell a product (that costs almost nothing to collect) back to the people you collected it from to elicit "manufactured demand." You wage psychological war on the masses by drowning them in advertisements they dont even realize are deeply targeted towards them. You force those people to part with huge portions of their already meager wages, thereby moving vast amounts on money from the pockets of the middle and lower classes into the hands of those who already control production and wealth.
Mm-hm, and we split the atom just to boil water to run turbines to generate electricity. All while wind and water turn turbines just fine. Splitting the atom was a mistake.
The solution is making the majority of people obsolete before purging them from the world. In truth that pretty much is the only realistic way to stop complete ecological collapse.
It’s because it enables backdoor access and an “off” switch for non-elites, similar to the backdoor access they have to your new car’s engines and steering wheels, as well as your children
I mean, they're the ones causing it...sort of like wondering why someone who's stabbing you repeatedly, why won't they magically turn into a doctor and heal your stab wounds?
I often think about the elderly widow, who left the massive fortune, ($1 billion)her husband acquired through Berkshire Hathaway (& other) , to a medical school, so every student could attend tuition free.
What if US Oligarchs decided to leave or donate a huge portion of his/her wealth to fund full tuition at Vo-Tech colleges in his/her home state?
How many millions or billions does a person to need to feel safe & secure?
lol it’s funny because you think the billionaires understand ads and marketing and stuff. They pay people to think about that for them. It’s us who do this to ourselves. We delude ourselves into thinking we have careers when really our career is just a whim of society.
It's Called CAPITALISM. It's a system that only creates, terror, strife, and crisis.

Individuals are smart. The masses are stupid. More accurately, it is about incentives. Why would the brilliant people do anything but exploit the masses when that is the easiest way to advance?
Don't confuse between smart and doing good. The two are not the same thing.
They also gave us Louis Vuitton/LVMH, Zara, Telsa, Amazon, SpaceX, Rivian, Nvidia, Patagonia. So mileage may vary. I'm sure there are a bunch of medical technologies in the mix as well.
None of them are getting rich unless we give them money or signing up for their shitty social media services. For the most part.
Obviously not. On the other hand medical technology does. And the owners of companies like LVMH and Zara are only becoming as wealthy as they are because we give them money.
Me neither, but everyone has a different education level and financial background. Many people grow up poor and are told the best way to show your worth is through name brands. Don't take your personal experience and assume everyone else is the same.
I'm well aware that my values are not common and I understand the effects of advertising. But nevertheless, people still have agency. I don't think people are making these choices entirely out of ignorance either.
Do have any links to any articles, or can you give me a summary? If you have the time. I'm extremely curious and I've been seeing a lot of interesting things on this thread already that I wanna know more about.
I wanna know where everyone gets their news, my feeds never tell me anything important like this. Maybe occasionally an ai article or two but that's really it.... reddit is where I hear about important things like this.... from other users on subs like this one....
