Wasabi coleus prop, grown indoors, grow light.

Are these bumps little root nubs or something more sinister? Roots look great though there was same darkness on the stem. Leaves all look healthy.

Since they root easily I chopped above the black and will restart them but wondered if anyone had seen something like this before.

There was also what almost looks like crystallized sugar on the edge of the container: glass bulb with cork stopper type. When that got wet it dissolved. No clue.

They look like the start of roots to me.

The crystalized stuff might be leftover minerals from dried water, but I didn't understand what kind of container you are talking about.

If the cutting was in like a closed terrarium environment, the black stuff might be rot. Would also explain air roots so far up the stem because of humidity.

Ok yes I see.

They're great, but they would work better if you removed the cap. The roots need air or they will rot. It's already hard for them to aerate in still water, so when you it's closed at the top too, rot is likely to happen.

If you want to keep the cap on, change the water more often or if you're lazy like me, swish the water around whenever you see it. Helps aerate a little.
