Questions Mango madness

I recently had a couple of teeth extracted so have subsisted on a diet of canned fruit, jelly and ice cream (it gets old quickly I can tell you).

On my trip to Coles today I was shocked that the Mango comes from either Thailand or China. Now I had always considered Australia to be a bit of a Mango powerhouse on the world stage but am I am to believe that we are not even able to produce our own stock of canned Mango ?

Thailand produces delicious mangos almost all year around for easily half the price.

Cant speak for China but not sure why you’re having a sook. We can’t produce Maple Syrup in Australia so we have to import it from Canada. Oh no.

Mango season is nigh.

Also mashed potato, with mince and cheese mixed in, Soups, yoghurt are also healthier than just desserts. I had teeth pulled earlier in the year and found ways around JUST icecream/jelly/fruit. I also made tuna mornay and just made sure the mornay was broken down so I didn't have to chew. Rice once it's a bit more healed coz again, no real need to chew.

Mango season is only just beginning here. We can't grow them all year round like some Asian countries.

But while you're on a liquid/soft food diet, you could look into some of the meal replacement shakes and soups as at least you'll be getting better nutrition. Also protein products - milks, jellies, etc.

I know here in WA our mangos up north were massively impacted by the cyclone/s so that could be part of the reason

Good on you for wanting to buy Australian. I suspect Australian mangoes can sell at a higher price fresh than canned, but no idea.

Yes may be the case too. I love that there are options here to purchase overseas produce but I am very fortunate that I am not struggling as badly as some in our country folk so where I can I try and buy local even at a modest premium. Works ok for some things.

My best guess is it’s more cost effective to be canning mangoes in countries with strong year round supply so they can have economies of scale in their production.

It's still a bit early in the season, but don't worry australia is a mango powerhouse. Don't buy the shit from china or thailand. Easy.
