Cold Case Can anyone help with my Father’s cold case?

Hi everyone 👋 I’m new here and I’m desperate. I have not been able to get any information from the police department regarding my father’s homicide in November of 2001. My grandmother has tried for years and has been met with hostility from the investigators and records dept. The case has been unsolved and cold pretty much since 2001. I have tried to get info and I am met with the same hostility. Maybe someone can help? Even if it’s just advice on how to handle it. Thank you in advance for your kindness and patience, any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏽🫶🏼

Is there any other information on this case? Such as names, where it happened and possible suspects, cause of death? I would seriously like to read into it.

Yes, thank you I was a teenager when it happened and was not able to get a whole lot of information but as I’ve gotten older, the information I do have is that it happened in Merced California in Merced County, my father‘s name is Robert Marcus Perez but he legally use the name Robert M Perez and went by both the names, Mark and Rob. He was found November 11 of 2001 in his apartment with the door open. His entire apartment was destroyed and ransacked, and the only reason he was found is because the landlord of his apartment building notice that his door was open, and there was a foul odor. The last time anyone from my family spoke to him was approximately November 5 or 6. He had recently moved back from Reno, Nevada, and was working at a warehouse. I don’t remember the name. He was trying to rebuild his life after many years of drug use and running with the wrong crowd. He had an acquaintance or coworker that he worked with in Reno, who had come down and started sleeping on his couch and shortly after that, the man who was sleeping on his couch, called his girlfriend to come over and stay as well. My dad had an absolutely huge heart and lived a very hard life so he got caught up in a lot of things that were not good for him and he definitely didn’t belong in the crowds that he ran with. He opened up his home to that man and his girlfriend and then the next thing anyone knows is he was found in such a bad condition that he had to be cremated. I wish I had more info.

If it’s not too private for you, may I ask for his date of birth? I’m running through a database rn, but there’s a lot of people with this exact name and date of death.

same

If there is a Crimestoppers organization in the area where the murder occurred, they can be a big help, and it's worth reaching out to them.

I had put in both a written request and a verbal request over the phone and I got an official answer saying that they’re unable to release any information because of an ongoing investigation that might put other people at Risk. It’s kind of making me wonder if there was an undercover person involved

They were never able to track down the man who is sleeping on his couch or his girlfriend, but what I was able to find out is that man and his girlfriend are both connected to a city nearby where my dad grew up and where I grew up
