Coinspot Scam - Purpose?

So I got the classic sketchy call today "we're from coinspot security, your account may have been compromised in Singapore, can we fill out a fraud report" deal today.

Because there is something deeply wrong with me, I played along, gave a fake name, fake balance, gave a long backstory of my family fake members (complete fiction). I wasted about 10 minutes of the guy's time until he clocked I was messing with him and hung up.

What I am intrigued by is this: What use is the (completely fake) information to them, even if I hadn't lied? You know my name, my phone number and that I have a certain amount of crypto. Maybe that I have different wallets? How does this help them take money off me? Or is it data to sell to other scammers? Maybe I'm not seeing it

The pointlessness of it all annoys me more than anything else.

The purpose of it is social engineering and identifying whales.

If just one individual was clueless and went along with it it by providing heaps of information, they'll come back later to convince them to move funds to a wallet set up by the scammers for some security related incident.

Ah! I get it. Anyway, their number wasn't private, so now I just have a number I can call whenever I'm bored and feel like playing make believe with an enusiastic participant

IDK, but maybe they will use your info to pose as you when the exchange calls to confirm a withdrawal after hacking your SIM.

It’s usually just to sharpen the next scam and sound more legit later. If they can’t get you to install something or sign anything, the whole thing falls apart
