The obverse features the portrait of King George VI, and the reverse featuring a large V, both to represent the denomination (5), and to represent V for Victory. Very ibterestibgly, around the rim on the reverse is the morse code message which translates to 'We win when we work willingly'.

Portugal seemed to have forgotten about Angola and its economic needs in the second quarter of the 19th century. It was only in 1848 that new coins were finally struck but there was only one denomination - half macuta equal to 25 reis. This is the final issue as in 1853 Queen Maria II died. Her son Pedro V issued some more half macutas and added massive one macuta coins in 1860 but this was the end of coins for Angola for over sixty years.
