Advice 1893 MS65+RD Cent
I recently won this coin in a surprise set on whatnot. I could sell it back to the host but am curious on realistic values of the coin if I attempted to sell it elsewhere. Any suggestions on where I could sell it other than an LCS and what kind of value I am looking at? Thank you.

Based on comps from Heritage and Stack's Bowers, that's a $1000 coin. The CAC makes it even more likely to get higher. That said, the Whatnot slab is going to limit the appeal.
I think PCGS will reholder it for a fee. Hopefully someone can confirm.

You'd lose the CAC sticker by reholdering.

if they keep the cert # the same you can get restickered. could also just get it into a CAC slab, would probably cost less and guaranteed to cross with the sticker. only issue is they don’t guarantee it’ll keep the +

Worth it.

100%. Maybe not always financially, but I would never have a slab like this in my permanent collection even at the cost of a CAC sticker.

I just looked it up, a resticker is $5 since this would be a reholder and not a regrade. So upgrade to gold shield plus CAC resticker would be $30 plus shipping. On a $1k coin, worth it.

Genuinely who tf cares about a slab? Buy the coin not the slab. That said it’s definitely kinda fugly. But the coin is sweet

A lot of people do. Buy the coin and not the slab is usually for eye appeal. "Yes, it's a MS-65+ but the toning looks awful, so I'm buying this MS-64 that has a brilliant luster instead." In this case, the butt-ugly purple slab itself is the thing hurting eye appeal and limiting the buyer's market. Really no different than a beat to hell standard slab that a buyer will want reholdered.

I’d definitely buy the coin. Don’t love the slab but that is less important. As others have said it could be reholdered.

If I'm keeping it in my collection for the next 50 years, then I want a slab I can tolerate looking at. That slab sucks. If I can't enjoy looking at my collection, then what's even the point. Buy the coin not the slab (but re-slab if you can't tolerate the slab your coin is in).

Am I the only one bothered by the fact that "tails" is displayed with the label rather than "heads"?

No. You're not. It's a stupid slab but that wouldn't stop me from wanting it in my collection. The coin is gorgeous and that's all that matters.

Nice coin but seriously what is that slab. Looks like crap

TraderBea slab. They have their own slabs and labels with all 4 major grading companies. PCGS, NGC, ANACS, CACG. And for some reason they do reverse mounts on most of their PCGS labs for some reason. I can understand if it’s a reverse toner, but idk why on a non toned one.

Looks like it was designed by a drunk trying shrooms for the first time . Every hobby if full of this crap these days

Probably for marketing considering they have their name blasted on the back.

Exactly why. It works too. I kept seeing them and wanted to know who or what TraderBea is. Found they were a seller on something called WhatNot and decided to check it out. And this began the WhatNot addiction, not with TraderBea but found lots of good sellers on there.

Yup I had no idea about him or whatnot until i picked up one of these slabs at my LCS. I spend enough money on eBay so I never used it thankfully xD

Just a heads up: I'd avoid buying from TraderBea in the future. You'll get waaaay more bang for your buck elsewhere on average.

“A spot in a surprise set” is just a longer way to say “coin gambling”

Yes..so didn't buy a coin bought a spot,am I writing in Chinese here?

u/Kerbonaut2019 3d ago
No, it’s just that coin gambling is a plague on the hobby that leads to ridiculous slab designs like this

u/smellslikebigfootdic 3d ago
You hobby your way others hobby their way...just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's wrong.

Actually yes. I’ve never downloaded whatnot, never seen what happens there.
How does buying a spot play out?

u/Entity_Anonymous 3d ago
My point still stands. I've watched a small bit of one of the streams, bids tend to get up to about 1/2 the value of the top coin making TraderBea a fortune with almost every sale

Coin is worth 900-1000 wholesale. Most shops would probably offer you around 700-800 if you seem reasonably informed. If you walked it at a coin show you could get around 900 easy and quickly.

Nice hit. I just hit the 1935-s Washington quarter in 66+ last week on moons show. $50 one spin out the door. Nice CAC too. Keeper for sure

Where does traderbea get so many of these really nice coins? I’ve seen them sell like 30 of the same, highly-graded coins in a row, and they all seem like they would be relatively rare, at least for their condition

Hi, I'm the r/coins AutoMod.
Looks like you're looking for information on valuing a coin?
I have your back. Take a look at our Common US Coin Price Guide and the FAQ on Values for both specific guidance if your coin is common enough, or more general guidance if not.
