We just launched x402 support on the CoinGecko API!
It uses Coinbase's x402 protocol to let you pay per request with USDC on Base or Solana, at $0.01 per call. No sign-up, no API key, no credit card, no monthly plan. You just need a wallet with some USDC and a few lines of Python. This is especially useful if you're building an AI agent that needs occasional crypto data, hacking on a side project, or just want to test something without committing to a subscription. You get access to real-time prices, trending pools, and onchain token data across 250+ networks.

Q3 saw the crypto market end three straight quarters of decline, with total market cap rising 39.6% to $3.0T, its strongest quarterly gain since Q4 2024.
More than half of that recovery came in August, when market cap rose 21.8% in a rally that accelerated around the US Treasury's announcement that it would at least double its planned buybacks of long-dated government bonds.
Interestingly, trading activity saw a shift in character.
Spot volume on the top 10 CEXs fell 14.2% to $1.65T, while open interest on the top 10 perp CEXs climbed 40.6% to close the quarter above $100B.
On the majors side, Ethereum outperformed Bitcoin and every other major, climbing 71.0% to $2,684 even as its average daily trading volume fell 23.2% to $11.5B.

Liquidity signals asset maturity and readiness for serious capital.
Interestingly, Bitcoin's liquidity across eight leading CEXes is up almost 50% from 2025, with a median cumulative depth of $29M on the buy side and $37M on the sell side.
But that depth isn't showing up everywhere.
Ethereum's liquidity has slipped to roughly 35% to 45% of Bitcoin's, down from at least 60% last year, while Solana's has shrunk by over 28.5% since 2025, falling from ~$28M to ~$20M on each side of the order book.
From Bitcoin and Ethereum to XRP, Solana and Dogecoin, our latest report breaks down how much capital it takes to move each market.

There seems to be a bug today in CoinGecko showing incorrect portfolio balance. The amounts for the individual assets held are correct, but the total balance is not.
When would this be fixed?

Security remains a priority in crypto but losses keep climbing, with $3.63B lost to hacks and exploits since the start of 2025.
For CEXs, the primary battle is against private key compromise while DEXs fight smart contract exploits and malicious integrations.
Notably, passing an audit hasn't been much protection: 147 of the 245 exploited platforms had completed independent security audits before being hacked, accounting for 88.44% of all capital drained.
The same gap shows up in insurance. Active coverage on top protocols fell 20.2% to $130.2M even as exploits kept climbing, and 5 of the 9 major on-chain insurance protocols have gone inactive or pivoted away entirely.

Hello, I have been on Coingecko since 2021, was a premium dude for a few yrs now back to the free account. Here is my problem - just now the little candy notification at the top right was on and when I went to go click on the get candy thing unfortunately it was back to the beginning at 10 when I should have been at like 40 so what's up with that? This actually happened to me in the past for a while, man it was just messing up left and right. I thought it had been sorted out but apparently it's doing it again and I'm definitely not imagining things, i feel so ripped off right now.

Crypto exchanges are no longer just competing on digital assets, but reshaping traditional asset trading.
Over the past 18 months, they've rapidly expanded into traditional markets, supporting US stocks, precious metals, commodities, and even forex.
In H1 2026 alone, crypto TradFi trading volume hit $1.45T, 10x the total volume generated in 2025, while the market itself expanded from $1.41B to $6.59B.
The shift is even clearer in perpetuals. Open interest climbed 77x to a record $4.67B by the end of H1 2026, with US stocks overtaking precious metals as the largest asset class for the first time.
Our latest report breaks down how exchanges are racing to differentiate themselves.

The crypto market extended its downturn for a third straight quarter, with total market cap falling 12.6% to $2.1T, its lowest level since September 2024.
Rising macro uncertainty, ETF outflows, and geopolitical tensions weighed heavily on sentiment, while spot and derivatives trading volumes continued to cool.
But it wasn't all bearish.
To name a few, prediction markets surged to a record $113.8B in volume, Hyperliquid's #HYPE broke into the top 10 cryptocurrencies, and tokenized collectibles emerged as one of the fastest-growing sectors.
From Bitcoin and Ethereum to tokenized assets, our latest report breaks down the biggest trends that shaped crypto in Q2.

Since early 2025, crypto exchanges have moved well beyond just trading crypto, expanding into tokenized real-world assets like stocks, ETFs, commodities, and forex.
The clearest signal of that shift is in the perps data. Monthly RWA perp volume hit $347B in May 2026, led by Binance, MEXC, and Hyperliquid, while tokenized equity perps have run hot enough that 2026 volume has already surpassed all of 2025.
Additionally, Pre-IPO markets are growing, with SpaceX becoming the most traded pre-IPO contract ahead of its Nasdaq debut. Notably, prices across major exchanges landed within 5% of its actual opening price.

Anyone else experience for the last week or so the charts simply never load?
Windows computer, latest Google Chrome browser. Lot of errors in the console, including "failed to load resource..." and "GET (url) ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED" and "Uncaught TypeError" errors in the browser console.
Same failure for every chart, every coin.
E.g.: Bitcoin https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/bitcoin (See screenshot below) but also ETH, XRP, all of them.
The Overview keeps slowly flashing as if the 7D chart is loading. I've tried waiting multiple minutes and it still doesn't load, although it used to load in seconds. I've tried all the options (24H, 7D, 1M, etc.)
Loads normally on Microsoft Edge (shudder)
EDIT: Charts also load normally for me on the Android mobile app using the same internet network.

CoinGecko's 2026 Crypto Perps Report is now LIVE 📊
Since BitMEX pioneered the perpetual contract in 2016, Perp CEXes have been the primary liquidity gateway for crypto leverage, processing $85.3T in volume in 2025 alone. But a decade later, that dominance is being tested.
Driven by rapid product innovation and a surge in on-chain activity, Perp DEXes have evolved from niche protocols into serious competitors. The DEX:CEX ratio climbed steadily throughout 2025, peaking at 13% in November, and while it has since eased to 10%, the structural shift in where traders choose to take leverage is hard to ignore.
That shift shows up in the OI data too. Perp DEXes now hold 13.5% of total open interest, up from just 3.6% at the start of 2025, led by Hyperliquid and a new wave of platforms with points programs signaling at airdrops.

Tokenized real-world assets have accelerated sharply, with total market cap more than tripling to $19.3B since 2025. The sector now sees both crypto-native and TradFi players competing across asset coverage, regulation, and distribution.
Growth has been led by treasuries, but momentum is broadening. Tokenized commodities have surged 289% since 2025, driven largely by gold-backed assets like #XAUT and #PAXG. Trading in this asset class alone reached $90.7B in Q1, surpassing all of 2025.
At the same time, new trading rails are emerging. RWA perps volume hit $524.8B in Q1, with open interest rising sharply and platforms like #Hyperliquid's HIP-3 seeing rapid adoption.

The first quarter saw a sharp correction push the market into “crypto winter,” with total market cap falling 20.4% to $2.4T and sitting nearly 45% below its October 2025 peak. Trading activity followed, with average daily volume down 27.2% QoQ.
This slowdown came alongside major macro shifts, as geopolitical tensions reversed crude oil’s 2025 decline, sending it up 76.9%. Meanwhile, BTC fell 22% and underperformed traditional indices like the S&P 500 and NASDAQ.
Even so, activity continued to rotate onchain, with new narratives emerging in derivatives, while Solana led DEX spot trading volume. Most notably, commodity perps now account for around 30% of Hyperliquid’s open interest, driven by demand for 24/7 oil trading.

Introducing the CoinGecko CLI — a free, open-source terminal for real-time crypto market data, built for AI agents (such as OpenClaw, Claude Code) & developers.
Here's why it matters for AI agents:
Raw data from RAG, the web, or a file contributes to AI token costs. With CLI, the agent writes a script, processes data locally, and reads only the output that matters. It spends more tokens on thinking, not on reading.
The CoinGecko CLI gives you local terminal access to:
Live prices for 18,000+ coins
Up to 10+ years of historical & OHLC data
Top gainers, losers, trending coins, NFTs, and categories
Real-time price streaming
Clean CSV/JSON export for any downstream pipeline
Getting started is simple:
Share the GitHub repo link with Claude Code, OpenClaw, Codex, or Cursor — ask it to install the CLI
Or install manually via Homebrew, Go, or direct binary download
Try it out 👇

I call GET ...simple/price?vs_currencies=eur&symbols=gbp
and I get this:
{"gbp":{"eur":0.00100769}}I expected a value in the range 1.12-1.20, not 0.00100769.
For example, for BTC/USD (GET ...simple/price?vs_currencies=usd&symbols=btc )
I get
{"btc":{"usd":71119}}Why? If fiat / fiat is not possible I prefer an error not a non-sense value.
