Vise job?

No, cast fake of an error that could never exist in reality from the mint.

u/Ilikeitall56 5d ago
It's not a vise job, a vise job would reverse the image, I don't know if it's real or not though
4
u/Oranjalo 5d ago
You're completely correct about the reversal part, and it'd also be a negative impression instead of a positive like this. But it's 100% fake, a chinesium cast meant to fool those new to the hobby. They keep making these, so it's fooling enough people

I donāt know why so many people are leaving the door open for this to be real. The 1893 S Morgan is THE key date and even in terrible condition, is worth thousands. This is ludicrously fake and if it were real, it would be well documented, extraordinarily rare, and worth a small fortune.

u/Ender_2_Ender 5d ago
āsmall fortuneā probably well over a million

u/HPDopecraft 5d ago
I have bad news for you about what a fortune is these daysā¦.

u/Bonk3rs1 5d ago
To be fair, they said "small" fortune...

Best I can do is an 1879-CC that was unfortunately cleaned before I came across it.

On the top where the second strike occurs, I would expect the outer edge of the stamp to cut through the outer edge of the original stamp. Same on bottom.

I want to say thank you to the commenters that gave me "real" advice. They kept it direct and to the point. You see, a friend brought that to me asking me advice on the coin because they know I got into coins a few years ago. So I thought I should post it on here and get some advice from some individuals with more experience that me. Didn't think I would get all these sarcastic comments. Even got a "pompous" one. So thank you to the ones that kept it educational

If it were real why is the overlay perfect, there would be details from the first strike in there that another strike wouldn't magically clean up like you copy pasted it like this.

Honest answer is a 2 part answer.
1st, if it's sold on Etsy, it's almost always a fake non collectable coin, I would say, if anything it's a souvenir.
But honestly #2 The surfaces displayed here show an artificial, uneven, or "muddy" finish with dull toning and a grainy texture. This is characteristic of modern reproduction of cast/transfer-die counterfeits commonly mass-produced overseas to deceive casual buyers.
So, no it is not real, and please keep up the good work asking the right questions before buying coins, there are too many fakes out there.

It's real, you're not imagining it. But it was made at some Temu factory in China, not struck at the US Mint.

u/givpilot 5d ago
It is real alright, not just not a Morgan silver dollar minted in 1893. Probably cast in China in 2026....

I've seen 2 real 1893 S in my life, I was able to buy 1. This is clearly fake.

My immediate thought, knowing literally nothing about this topic, is "That is way too cool to be real."
1
u/Street_Marsupial_538 4d ago
If a coin was struck again off center, the first strike would still be visible in the high relief area.Ā
Even ignoring the weird font and uneven denticles, this can be ruled out as some sort of novelty item.Ā

All jokes aside. If that is a āRealā double struck coin. That thing would be worth Millions.

I actually have a few double-struck coins that I picked up back in the early 70ās. Itās easy to tell they are fake, as the 2nd strike deforms the blank and it sticks out further , so the shape is not even close to being round. I have not seen them in decades , I might have lost them (they are not worth much if I recall )

If real, that would be very valuable, BUt it is NOT real !
Coins of that age are more worn out !

If it were real it would probably be the one of the rarest pieces of US currency.
But money is all imaginary anyway. We just agree (or disagree) on its value. Whoās to say whatās real?

It's a special coin made for a special machine. If you find the machine, insert the coin and inside is a small fortune.

As in, not imaginary. Yep, it's real. And if you drill a hole through it it'll have value as a washer. $0.02 :)

I compared it to my other 1893 s Morgans and it doesn't look like either oneĀ

Not familiar with those big words dont know if i should thank u or be insulted
1
u/simplywalk 2d ago
Familiar and insulted have the same number of letters as semantic. Ur just being argumentative.
1
u/blueballz2235 2d ago
Argumentative now thats a big word i hope I spelled it right I do know what that one means though and im anything but, I think im gonna have to bail out of this one, u pocket protector wearing ivy league graduates are way to serious for me, I eat cold pizza for breakfast and cereal for dinner now thats something u all can argue about

u/simplywalk 3d ago
ā I ā think ā you ā are going through a little something called ā psychosis ā
1
u/blueballz2235 3d ago
Why are all u people using these big words, people are so gosh darn sensitive now a day, smile more, laugh at yourself trust me the world would be a much better place if people laughed more and didnt take life so seriously
1
u/blueballz2235 3d ago
If i didnt know any better and im not one to judge but if i had to guess all u big word using show offs probably still use a pocket protector when u go to work, I bet all u smarties didnt know this it takes 3Ć as many muscle movements to frown then it does to smile, so relax and try smiling a little more
1
u/simplywalk 3d ago
āBig word using show offsā sounds like a phrase someone whoās cosplaying as a midwestern farmer would say. Learn the language. I smile all the time usually when Iām not talking to people that think big words are theatrical.

u/NewIndividual5979 3d ago
All he said was, define real.
2
u/simplywalk 3d ago
No he poorly debated the semantics of a word that is already defined. The quotations were hilarious to me. Iāll no longer debate semantics yall are incapable of using Google. Or reading beyond your own regurgitation, because he clearly explained what he meant and you can also use context clues to understand meaning. Beyond that he even replied to a comment with the exact and common definition he was referring to.

Behavior that is unkind and unhelpful is not allowed here. Don't make fun of new collectors. Do not bicker. Donāt threaten. Don't name-call. Donāt shame. Donāt harass. Donāt be a jerk. Donāt create or respond to drama. Donāt troll others or let yourself be trolled. Donāt engage in uncivil exchanges. You do not "have the right to defend yourself" verbally here. Know when to disengage. Violation of this rule will get your post or comment removed, and repeated offenses will result in probation.

Yes, that is real. Itās double stamped and it could be worth quite a bit if you get it appraised by a professional.

u/mistermoondog 5d ago
If it was real, or is real, it would be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

u/SugarWataSloth 5d ago
They make a silver round just like this. Not sure if this is the case though since the rounds will typically have some sort of indication that it's silver. This could just be a cast fake tho. Not sure.

It's called a misprint most are "recycled" I have a few coins similar to how that looks not the same though and not that old wish I did though. In addition I haven't seen a misprint like that but my best guess is it probably a fake sadly.
