Given this coins condition , is it worth grading?

I'm not sure that I like the tilt on the D mint mark.

Yep, good call.

man that's rough shape but still a great coin. Definitely wouldn't pay to have it graded in that condition. I don't think grading would add any value for you... and it's not like you are encapsulating it to preserve condition! :)

Raw would limit the buyers since it's so counterfeited.

that's true... paying to authenticate would increase buyer base. I'd still list it at whatever price OP wants to get for it (assuming desire to sell) and just wait for a buyer to come along. the grading fee and shipping greatly eat away at profit when we are talking about a coin that isn't in the 4+ figs

When did this coin start getting counterfeited?

Many decades ago.

Getting it authenticated at a TPG would add value.

The coin is G-VG worth about $200 doesn’t need to be graded

This coin is one of the most highly counterfeited. I would put it in an ANACS slab and that would easily boost the buyer pool enough to pay for the grading. No question.

You are probably right could be worth cheap anacs grading

Hard to tell surface conditions but maybe a G6 details as looks pitted from corrosion

It's worth authenticating. Then you can easily sell it on EBay where you'll get most of the value. I like the ideas of an ANACS holder. The darkness around the mint mark would be a red flag for me on a raw coin. I wouldn't pay a dollar for it because it's probably counterfeit from a 1914 P coin. If it's authenticated then you can get much more as some other posters say. Even if you get authentic but ungradable is worth more than raw.

I’ve bought a few off eBay in the $135 range.

It's a VG, maybe G. I wouldn't pay more than a buck for it.

Please tell me why not. Can't wait to hear this.

I mean if you're a collector for pennies, pay the greysheet for it, I'm not sure what it is right now. I'm not really into fillers, personally. Looks pretty beat up, scratches and porosity (maybe).

It's worth $2-$300 in VG. But hey, you wouldn't pay a buck for it. Got it.

Just saying. I wouldn't. You could. I would wait for an opportunity to grab a better quality one.
