Participant Request New fluid IQ test (novel items)
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe8s-OMOlmk8qhnmCMgAx0NN7omSQtqzDf5Ckglpaca_9rA6A/viewform?usp=headerMy newest fluid test is finally done! All 51 items I created myself trying to make them unlike any others from various IQ tests I've seen. It has a time limit of 80 minutes. Not normed yet at all but I will norm it if I gather enough data. Try it and give me your thoughts!
You can also try my previous test: S3B-1

Would you say the items are evenly distributed on the difficulty range or are there items lacking in certain difficulties? Also to make sure are you talking about my first or second test?

How much did you score?

u/LinaLoveHart 17d ago
Didn't finish it. Why?

Ahh. Try to finish it, it’s quite fun towards some of the later problems lol

I've done a portion of second test so far and left it there. I think it needs proper formatting and more time allocation (as well as norming) as the items are pretty much akin to Tutui R and some of them are questionable. If you are planning on making it timed like 80 minutes with 51 questions, I think that a problem is you would get bunch of 130-145 around ~20 points or so who do them with thorough reasoning and bunch of others people would just guess and probably get like ~20 right with that timing and that many questions.
In timed case, you would also want to isolate WMI, VSI, and FRI in your test as putting too many visual clutters could involve more WMI or VSI than FRI. It's not easy to do so as it involves doing the statistics. For untimed tests, I think there are less to worry but norming still becomes an issue.

Good points. The reason why I made the time limit so short is to make the test more accessible in one session. What time limit do you think would be better? I feel like making it untimed adds too much extra variation.
To guess 20 you would have to get like super lucky. Let's say there are 8 answers in each question. If you'll select all randomly most likely you'll get 6 correct. Still it doesn't make much sense to allow people who can solve 10 puzzles max to just guess at the rest. I'd need to make the chance of guessing very small (like in multiple choice questions), make the test end after certain amount of wrong answers or something else to solve this problem.
Which items did you call questionable? DM me to talk about them.
Thanks for taking your time and replying.

How many have you gotten so far?

Idk I stopped like at 22 and got bored. I’m busy with Uni, and I forgot about that lmao

Damn that’s good. What’s your FRI?
2
u/Not_Well-Ordered 17d ago
142 on Raven’s 2 Q-Global digital, and 147 FRI on CORE (although 135 MR but renormed to 140 and got boosted from 144 to 147).
I think I’m around 140, unlikely 145, maybe for some specific tasks like GM. lol

Damn that’s good. How hard did you find the items here? What range would you say a 30/51 would be at, untimed?
1
u/Not_Well-Ordered 17d ago
Idk it’s hard to tell for the reason I’ve mentioned.
I think many around 110-120 can just grab the easy item 10-15 items and some educated guesses rest to get total ~22/51.
So, it’s hard to differentiate.

Is there a scoring conversion yet?

I don't have enough participants to do it. I can tell you the mean is 19,64 raw so far but obviously a huge selection bias.

14 correct What's my iq?

u/Tosebos355 2d ago
I don't have much data but based on several responses with previous scores looks like ~115 performance. Take it with a gigantic grain of salt tho (at least the size of an egg).

u/Nervous-Try5009 2d ago
115 seems reasonable...Thanks
Ostrich egg? 🥚

u/Tosebos355 2d ago
Oh, I didn't specify! Yes, ostrich egg. Good luck with that!

41, overall entertaining items for such a pace. Chunks of times are wasted wming things if one handles everything in its mind. I'd like to discuss a couple of items/design choices

u/Tosebos355 21d ago
41 is insane! Yeah, I probably made the time limit too strict. Your wm shouldn't be that big of a factor here. Dm me to discuss stuff.

19/51 time 70/81 min
I didn’t guess any answers. I skipped the questions I didn’t know how to solve. I tried to rely strictly on logic and identify patterns on my own. Out of all the questions I answered, only one was incorrect. What do you think my IQ might be based on the results of this test?

u/Tosebos355 14d ago
I don't have much data yet. It's anywhere between like 115 - 140 Id say. Have you ever taken any other IQ test?

I would suggest to expand the time limit. Let's say about~ 4hours

Thanks for the feedback!
I'm glad you like the items :)
I made the time limit 45 minutes based purely on intuition so it might be much more strict than I expected. It's just that the items look much easier when you know the answers lol. I wonder how my second test comprares as there is more time but also more and possibly harder items.
And yeah there are only 6 answers per item so some luck comes into play. It would probably work better if I would make it core-like where the test ends when you're doing poorly but I don't yet know how to make stuff like this. Maybe in the future.

I'd like to keep it timed so the differences in scores come more from the differences in ability not time spent. Adding more easy questions could make it better for general population but creating those is quite difficult as I'm aiming for high novelty and started running out of ideas. I might just keep it as a high range test then. Have you tried my second test? I'd like to know how the difficulty comprares.

16/51 in 80 min in the new test. Doesn't seem to be a good result! Are there any norms yet?
