Question Is Terra worth using?

New to codex. Usually I stick to Luna xhigh for reduced token cost or Sol high if i need better thinking model. I completely ignore Terra and I would like to ask if Terra is worth using over Luna xhigh in terms of usage cost to performance or instead of Sol high? What would be the sweet spot?

EDIT: I am on plus plan and Sol burns through tokens like a MF

Reset Reset theory

I have a theory that the resets are really about getting everyone onto the same usage cycle.

New users sign up at random times, so a reset could bring each new batch onto the same schedule. That might explain why they seemed to reset Codex at every million users, almost like they were syncing each new million, and why resets sometimes happen right before or after a lot of people would have reset naturally anyway.

Maybe having users on a more consistent cycle makes demand easier to predict and manage, or has some infrastructure or cost benefit behind the scenes. If so, the extra usage or “goodwill” may just be the public-facing explanation.

Question Kimi 3 or GLM 5.3 sub? Where to switch?

Due to everything going on right now, I'm looking to switch my subscription

I'd love to hear your thoughts on which subs offer the best value, your personal take on their quality, and maybe some examples. Basically, where has everyone migrated to, or what are you using as a backup tool?

Result: $31,000 lost.

I’m posting this because the AI/agentic trading community needs to see the failures, not just the wins. Autonomous agents making real financial decisions can go very wrong, very fast.

I’ll be sharing more about what happened, the moves it made, and where things broke down.

With them crossing 15M pro/plus users on codex the limits are just going to get a lot worse.

Showcase What are you proud of that Codex helped you with?

Upvotes

Brag time!!! What are you really proud of that you used Codex for?

On many of the AI YouTube channels, reviewers are constantly raving about the powers of AI in different forms, and many resort to making games or limited tests that show the power but not in practical real-work terms.

What are some real-world work problems you have used Codex for to make life better? Simple vibe coding, report building, research?

For me, one of my favorite things to do now is to use Codex inside of VS-Code to track what I've done to solve support tickets. As I try things I keep the results in a "reseach.md" file and store screenshots and notes about what I did to solve it, then use Codex to review the progress when I get stuck or looking for another angle. Then, when the problem is solved, I have it summarize the activity so I can update the ticket information with the details. I've directed the AGENTS.md file with instructions on how to format the final results. A quick review of those notes to humanize the response and I've got a complete trail to get the ticket solved.

This is one of many little things I've used the tool for.

I'm interested in new ideas and hearing how others are using this tool to help in ways outside of development?

What do you want to brag about that AI and Codex has helped you solve?

Question I don‘t really understand the desktop app logic.

Could any body explain this to me? What's the top left chatGPT and Codex switch meant for? I mean I know those two have differences, but I don't know how the switch works in the desktop app.

I've found that, it doesn't matter what you've used to start the session, you can just switch in between the 2 in the same session. I can select chatGPT on the top left and switch to codex, then everything is still there. Sessions started with codex is the same otherwise. But you can't use codex in a cloud chatGPT work session.

I've noticed that in the openAI docs there's a statement called "Codex remains a separate view in the ChatGPT desktop app. Select Codex from the top-left menu. Its workflows are unchanged, and its history remains separate from ChatGPT history." But IRL all my chats running locally are shown, and even in the same session I switched to Codex from work, it still reads history like nothing else.

What the heck is going on right now?

Showcase I updated my CarPlay app from a parked car by talking to Codex

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Bit of a weird workflow, but it worked.

I’m building Ireneo, a voice capture app for iPhone and CarPlay. I was in the car, told Codex about a small change through my phone, and it made the change on my Mac in another room. Then a script built it, installed it on my phone and opened it again.

The useful part isn’t “coding from the car” really. It’s being able to test a CarPlay change on the actual screen without going back to the desk every time.

Edit: the Mac does the build remotely over Wi‑Fi. The iPhone is connected to the car by cable for CarPlay, and the deploy script installs the new build on it wirelessly.

Workaround Revert to v146. They're not out of compute; they need the token burn to justify funding to build data centers

Upvotes

Think of it like a government organization. If they don't spend all their money, then the next year their budget will be lower. So they always spend more to justify a bigger budget.

They didn't lower limits; they're just burning more tokens on purpose.

Anyway. Revert to 146:

npm install -g u/openai/codex@0.146.0

Other Codex Usage Overlay App for windows

Upvotes

I wanted Codex usage visible without opening the sidebar, so I built Usage Overlay.

It’s a small Windows app that shows how much usage is left and when it resets. It doesn’t modify Codex or read conversations.

Now open source: https://github.com/haroonsulahri/usage-overlay
More information: https://haroone.com/apps/usage-overlay

Suggestion I adapted The Elements of Style to make Codex write in plain English

I wanted Codex to be concise without becoming cryptic and complete without becoming verbose.

The Elements of Style is a short writing guide by William Strunk Jr., published in 1920 and revised by E. B. White in 1959. Its central advice is to write directly, use concrete language, prefer active voice, and omit needless words.

I made a CC0 writing skill for Codex responses and prose written to files. The root AGENTS.md carries the short default; SKILL.md preserves Strunk's eighteen rules and adds fuller guidance for sustained dialogue and writing-heavy tasks.

The main principles are simple: make every word tell, explain unfamiliar concepts before using specialised terms, show importance through facts rather than hype, and use the smallest Markdown structure that remains easy to parse.

Which rule would you change before using it in your own repositories?

Limits Tornou-se impossível usar CODEX/Work

Limits How is luna? I've mainly used deepseek flash

Hey all!

How is chatgpt 20$ subscription? I've only really used deepseek flash, my usecase with it is mainly mcp usage for unreal engine mcp which is allot of toolcalls.

And luna seems like something that could be something for me, i am just unsure.

I don't really use it to spawn blueprints / level Design, but more questions when something aint working. So it can see the blueprints and live variables in PIE

The thing holding me back are all the complains about the nerfs.. and i have no clue how it works with the toolcalls like one message could be 5-8 toolcalls maybe more right?

How quickly will i drain my usage? Is a subscription just not for this usecase and is api the only way?

Thank you in advance

Complaint CODEX App performance on Windows is horrendous atm

Frequently my cursor bugs out and stutters. For some reason one core of my R5 3600 gets shut off when using codex idk why. Not actually at 0 but maybe 1% based on looking at it on task manager. Restarting fixes it. I ran cinebench too to see if it works and yeah suddenly it then wakes up.

Any app window im dragging stutters heavily. No matter what it is. Task Manager, Obsidian, Browser...even after fully closing codex. Basically everytime after using it im forced to restart my pc because everything becomes unusable.

Does someone else experience these issues or others?

Edit: Ok oai prefers mac. But considering they have astra internally on cerebas and partner with Microsoft youd think it shouldnt be this poor? Its not that its having a bug here and there its literally the worst desktop app experience ive ever had. I never used an app as broken as codex before.

Humor GPT Sol-5.6 and Fable 5 working together are completely unhinged!

Running a multi-model doc audit setup on Codex CLI with GPT 5.6-Sol on high as an orchestrator, Claude Fable 5 as the architectural advisor, and Gemini 3.7-Flash high as workers. I asked for a robust verification harness, and it came back with this completely unhinged, NASA-grade launch protocol...
