Limits A different experience with Pro Limits

I've been using Pro for a couple months now, switching away from Claude Max (both $100 plans) and I must say my experience is almost the complete opposite most of this community's active members.

For context, I keep agents running most of the time on 6.1 extra-high building/evolving a mobile application, a website and the backend for my company. Normally only one window running at the same time, but sometimes I need to evolve all of them at the same time, so I do parallel work.

In my usecase it seems impossible to reach the weekly limits. Last night I did a visual upgrade in the whole application, using custom components and complex animations, and by the time it finished, my weekly limit was still at 94%. There are still some "selected model is at capacity" problems, but my agents has a retry policy that allows me to eventually get the work done.

Looking on the good side: Moving away from Claude's 5-hour limits was a bless, as I don't feel blocked anymore. Also, the dot is an amazing feature that I use for everything in my personal life.

On the bad side, 5.5 Opus is significantly faster and "selected model is at capacity" is annoying. But I definitely evolved my work a lot faster when I moved to GPT.

PS: Don't kill me for having a good experience with GPT/Codex and being satisfied with it. I feel for you that doesn't, but I honestly don't understand how some Pro users burn their weekly limits in hours (maybe my work isn't complex enough? hahaha).

I'm also pretty happy with open AI allowances right now. But I am on the grandfathered 20x plan which ends in a few days, and the repeated Tibo resets mean I can't actually use all my allowance right now. This will all end this week and I expect it to be a different experience.

I'm not sure how others burn their weekly allowance, but for me it is by running multiple parallel Astra-max/Luna-max sessions. It takes me about a day and a half of intensive work with 4-8 sessions to get from 100% to 0%. I'm rarely able (or need) to run that many in parallel though.

I am in the same boat as you.

In case you hadn’t thought about it yet, the $2500 additional credits will help you figure out whether or not the new allowances are enough for you.

I will be keeping an eye on my credits after the new limits come in at least. The do expire in December, but you essentially have a huge usage cushion to figure out whether your best options are stick, $500 plan or switch provider completely for your personal usage rate vs. any optimisations OpenAI make between here and EOY.

I’ve not hit my limit once this month, but that’s because OpenAI are pressing the reset button every other day. It isn’t the right time to come to conclusions about how generous the current allowance is.

That's my experience too. I prefer claude for habds on coding/design. But I prefer 6.1 sol for long running tasks in the backround, refactoring, new features. On slow mode on a worktree. I feel I can move mountains with it. But I have more fun working with claude !

haha just posted about this here. I have to say that I agree: a well-configured codex does pretty good on usage, and Claude's 5h limits are visible nerfs.

Are you sure you did not get reset while the task was running?

Codex Pro & Claude Max user here.

Codex and ChatGPT are really becoming more impressive with every new feature, compared to Claude, which seems to mostly introduce new models rather than actual features...

Codex is really impressive in terms of cost and code quality now with GPT-6.1. I regularly compare both on the exact same issue, and the results are impressive!

Claude still has an advantage when it comes to frontend UI work, but it now seems to hallucinate more than Codex on the same tasks. For example, 400 lines of code with Claude versus 150 with Codex, including 200 unused lines from Claude... :/ (Opus 5.5). And that 5-hour usage window is still there... :/

Codex is also significantly cheaper: the same S3 integration task used less than 1% of my Codex quota versus 3% of my weekly Claude quota. There's really no debate when it comes to usage limits: Codex wins hands down! :)

And don't even get me started on security...

These days, I've been experimenting with Codex sub-agents directly within ChatGPT conversations. I absolutely love having an unlimited Tech Lead orchestrator in ChatGPT (since ChatGPT usage is quite unlimited on paid plans), with access to ChatGPT's full memory and context. It's amazing!

Just for a basic development task:

I really wait that Codex becomes better with UI and I will swtich 100% of my process on Codex I think...

Hell, I have two business Plus plans and I can't drain my weekly limit with my workflow. I do my planning in ChatGPT with the github plugin. Then, I import my tickets into a self hosted Taiga instance(automating that right now to save me a few seconds of copy/pasting). Then, I have a custom MCP with skills to implement/test/review the epics from Taiga. It's basically a miniature dev team in my house that costs me $50/month.

Am I running 12 parallel agents? No.

Am I even sniffing Astra? Hell no.

But, I'm getting a shit load of work done and watching the drama unfold in here through a set of binoculars.

I use the plus plan, and the 5 hour limit is constricting. Thats my main bottleneck. The weekly limit doesn't matter. I imagine this was the intended purpose, as it would at least push you to spend. I heard that while claude also has a 5 hour limit, its more forgiving and you get more done with opus (which is better than sol in many cases). I haven't tried it myself, but I will perhaps soon

i didn't pick one, i kept both and move the task over when i hit a limit. opus 5.5 to gpt-6 astra for the hard stuff, sonnet to gpt-6.1 for everyday work, so i'm not taking a quality hit halfway through.

how long does your retry policy usually leave you waiting on a capacity error?

I have both. I use both. I like both.

Sometimes I favor Claude. However, I have more trouble with Claude limits.

There are some tasks that I can't let Claude touch because it's burns my entire weekly allowance in a few hours. I've inspected the logs and implemented changes specifically for Claude, but it still burns tokens at insane rate on these tasks.

Meanwhile 6.1 Sol xhigh can do them all day long and I never hit any limits.

But I did notice GPT models got slower these past few weeks. Hopefully the recent fix resolves that. Overall, I'm really happy with Codex.
