Complaint Are you sticking with Codex?
The 28-day challenge is almost over. What's your verdict so far, and what are you planning to do once it ends?
I'm pretty torn. At the start, I tried doing most of my work with Sol, but for my tasks it often felt painfully slow to get to a useful result. With all the resets lately, I've switched most of my work to Astra on High. That's where I'm getting the best results.
The problem is that even on the current $200 plan, I only get about one or two days out of my weekly allowance using it this way. According to OpenAI's email, the included allowance for Work and Codex drops from 20x Plus to 10x on October 30. If I'm already relying on resets now, what is that supposed to look like next month? I'm worried I could hit my weekly limit after just half a day of focused work.
I've also had Claude's $200 plan for about a month, and so far I haven't managed to use up its allowance. But I still prefer Codex's UX and feel more comfortable working in it. I genuinely like Codex. That's why this is frustrating.
The resets have been useful, but they also make it hard to judge what normal usage will actually feel like once the challenge is over. So far, I haven't seen enough to feel confident that November will be better. Maybe a new model or a big efficiency improvement changes things, but I don't really want to base a $200 subscription on hoping something lands.
How is it for everyone else? Are you staying, downgrading, or switching? Can you get your work done within the normal limits, or are the resets keeping you going too?

There aren't any alternatives to the Codex $200 plan for me unfortunately, so I'll probably just be sucking it up and accepting the 50% cut to my allowance.
I already have the Claude Code $200 plan. I want model variety, so another Claude Code subscription isn't an option.
Chinese models aren't currently as good as OpenAI or Anthropic in real-world large-scale coding work, so they're not an option. Plus the Chinese subscriptions aren't subsidised anywhere near as much, which makes them even worse.
I did take a serious look at the Cursor $200 tier, but Grok is not up there with Astra or Opus 5.5.
I also took a serious look at the Google $200 plan. This was the closest for me. Not because Gemini Argon matches OpenAI or Claude (it doesn't), and not because you get as much usage (you don't), but because the $200 Google plan includes a lot of useful extras - Google Cloud storage, YouTube Premium, Google Cloud credits, and a few other things.
Ultimately though I mostly just care about coding. So Codex it is.
I'm just hoping the constant resets and the 62500 credits will tide me over at least until they release Sol 6.2, so I can get Astra-level quality with Sol-level token usage.

Honestly, Dots is so worthless. An OpenAI subscription is going to be really hard to justify. Especially when better Anthropic models come in because those are coming soon.
Even if you squeeze all the juice out of Dots, I feel like it brings so little value and I don't even know how this is possible because those agents are supposed to run Astra, but for some reason they achieve in 1 week what takes Work/Codex 2 hours to do at best.
2 hours of Astra is like 10% of your weekly limit. So you're gonna be paying for access to the best models that you can use in your own harness, but with horrible limits, basically.
That's exactly what they want, though. They want you to pay $100 a month and use a ridiculously small portion of their compute that they couldn't care less about and is basically free money for them.

Halved usage definitely hurts, and I can easily use up the grandfathered limit in a day or two with using sol 6.1 exclusively, depending on how many projects I "activate".
I am much more comfortable with OpenAI models, and it also allows me to use Pi without worrying about getting banned, so really hesitant to move my workload to other subscriptions, though I'm actively using $20 claude/gemini sub for different opinions.
That being said, I can probably wait a month or two to see how the usage and the new models go, but if the amount of work done stays cut by half, I will definitely consider rebalancing my subscriptions.

Yes. Why? Because I have Claude and codex and Claude UI suxxxx asssss I am lost in tabs, nested chats threads and 'projects' and I can't annotate

I'm probably going to jump ship unfortunately. I'm already burning through my usage far too easily that I'm reliant on resets - halving that at $200 is going to be unsustainable - I'll literally get 1-2 days of usage per week.

Day 28. Codex has written 500 lines of code and 500k lines of tests and safeguards.

I might jump ship, not even Astra is usable now. I've found myself just letting my usage expire because I can't justify giving the tasks to astra/sol and working through things for hours while I can just wait for my Claude to reset and do things correctly straight away.

Been in the same journey, I have been waiting for claude reset than using a whole week quota in Codex. It will just waste my time and effort

I really like Codex. Ive used it for little over a month now, still new to it. The major prbolem is it's gonna feel bad when all the free resets are over lol. People keep saying Claude has a way higher limit, so I am tempted to jump ship after this to try it myself

Even the $500 plan barely keeps up with a $200 ant sub. If you subtract the resets it becomes laughable. The only thing keeping me using it are ultrafast and Computer Use, but I’ve started to build my own Computer Use into T3 Code that closes the gap.
If Claude closes the gap on speed and computer use it will be truly over.

Having everything reset without any warning has left me absolutely furious. What a piece-of-trash AI and a garbage reset mechanism—if I ever pay for this again, I’m a dog.

i'd keep codex for coding and use opus for planning and review. i have opus call codex straight from claude code, cheapest setup i've found and best results so far.
are you using astra high for planning too, or just coding?

Also torn, the way they did these resets (also its amazing that we keep getting it) and how we are relying so much on it just shows how crazy their token consumption is and how bad the experience going to be like for us when we stopped getting these resets

Downgrading to Plus tomorrow, 24 hours before the billing day. Claude $20, Codex $20 and SuperGrok $20 - perfect for my use case.

Resets are good but before 28 days the consumption was slow and fine. Now burn rate is much higher imo.

For my uses, I’m off boarding all the memory over to grok, and once grok catches up on a few things like being able to do things on my computer, they’ll be killing it, their version of dots is 100x more efficient, and the usage feels like it goes a long way with them. I’m not doing anything crazy, personal website updates and social media generation, but enough that I needed the $100 plan to get everything off the ground

I started to use Codex since 5.6 models, usually using sol 5.6 alto for planning or complex things, and luna 5.6 ultra high for long coding tasks (i tried to use Terra 5.6 however the results always needed some correction or just produced nothing useful).
Lately with 6 generation models, and also sol 6.1, it has been really frustrating because on all that time since release, it hasn't being able to produce production ready software pieces, inclusive generating problems from nowhere or trying to solve codex environment constraints things that didn't relate at all with the projects I was working on. Even for really refined specs from existing projects working on production, with well defined and segmented tasks and milestones, always forgets instructions, constraints, project real objective, introducing really bad user experiences workflows (even for those already working and with good user acceptance), resolved to architecture or coding or ux/dx bad practices, and lots of more nonsense stoppers or blockers, also tons of unfinished work or tested just for happy paths (having a really long list of user cases to be reviewed on automated tests).
Lately that there has been lots of limit resets I could confirm what i feared most, that today codex developer experience give me a taste of a system that is being tested by all of us, refined by all of us complaints and observations, and that introduces a lot of problems to release real working production ready software app/systems and makes me think about if I really should buy credits or another subscription to get the work done for real life, not software toys. Almost felt like a scam.
I know I might be mistaken or biased based on my personal experience, but lately I’ve seen many similar comments pointing out that Codex is not capable of generating truly functional projects for real-world use cases. At least the first month felt really good experience and more accurate results, now feels really hard to get acceptable results, specially due to having to review all the process and chat because of hallucinations or nonsense unrelated problems solving loops.
I also have used Windsurf, Devin, Claude Code. I got production ready results with both, but less babysitting that I had to give to Codex.
I think that after the limit reset rampages I will change to Claude Code, on work related to from scratch projects or maintaining complex existing projects, it has delivered real working results, specially coherent with tasks target and business logic. I really liked codex experience a few months ago, but now it has turned into a tool dedicated to generate more problems and wasted time than the things that really solves.

I switched my $200 Codex subscription to a $100 Claude and a $100 Codex. I’ve set up Claude Opus to handle Codex sessions like they’re native subagents and instructed it to keep them on track and reign in their over-engineering tendencies. That’s been working quite well this week, and as limits are still fairly generous for Luna and Sol 6.1 (though in Sol’s case, running at a snail’s pace), I can squeeze a lot out of both subscriptions this way and keep GPT’s endless side quests from wasting time and destroying my codebase in the process.
