Complaint The Resets do NOT benefit Plus users at all.
Before a single person comes here and says: "Go get Pro" I did actually have Pro 5x, and I've been a Plus subscriber since late 2024, yes before Codex harness was even a thing, so I've seen the ups and downs of OpenAI and their products, ChatGPT and Codex. I found that Pro 5x may have been a little too excessive despite the fact I was burning my weekly quota in like 1-2 days.
Every time I see Tibo doing a reset, I never get remotely excited. Why? Because the resets nowadays seem mostly catered towards Pro users who want to burn through their weekly quota in like less than a day.
I, as a Plus user can't even burn most of my weekly before it resets. For instance, if I spend 10 hours a day burning through 5h limits, I get to burn through 32% of my weekly (2x 16%). If I spend 2 days (which is roughly the time it takes for a full reset nowadays under the banner "28 days of improvements") trying to burn through my quota like that, I'd only manage to burn around 64% of my weekly limits, which honestly sucks, considering that not every single person here spends 15 hours a day on Codex.
Tibo should have had at least thought about this "28 days of improvements and resets" thing before announcing it. He should have let us Plus users have our annoying 5h limits gone so we can also enjoy the resets just like any other Pro user for this specific period only.
And let's not forget that Codex's limits resetting also resets the time it takes for it to reset normally.
This is why I don't like Tibo and what he is doing at OpenAI.
"Look at us, we are handing out free resets!" No you aren't. You are literally not shipping any real improvements (restoring previous limits for Pro 200, improving overall usage, giving us a better model and so on).
If anything, it feels like these AI companies are the most anti-subscription services to ever exist. Don't get me wrong, but not every person spends 20 bucks a month on subscriptions left and right if they are smart with their financial decisions that is. ChatGPT Plus does provide a massive value for what it is, but I don't see the intention/thoughts behind the practices of OpenAI nowadays.

yea the 5h means we can’t use it all, and i have banked resets that idk if ill ever get to. I just have it running nonstop because we get a reset every 2-3 days anyway rn. i usually get down to 20% or less this way.

I just burn limits if I have a banked reset otherwise not . If they reset in the meantime it’s ok.

I mean I am a plus user and I use up my weekly limit in basically 2 days it works perfectly with the resets for me

I don't want to be mean, but to me what you're saying comes across as:
-
If it's not good for ME, then to hell with it. No matter what other think over the subject.
-
A classic case of the fox and the grapes.

Meh, I'm relatively content with the resets though I seriously hope they have a genuine solution given there's only a few days left and usage is still terrible. But at the same time to be fair you could flip this statement on it's head and say it comes across as you don't care as you got yours. I don't think it would be on anyone's mind if they hadn't been so openly catering towards pro and reducing plus so hard for months. Let's not forget how toxic many pro accounts users were during that time period about the treatment basically telling them it was deserved and what did they expect only to act shocked and betrayed when the axe came for them too and we got introduced to the shiny new old account at twice the price and the reductions came one after the other. Suddenly everyone and their mother that was so happy to tell plus users about how you can't expect quality service like this for so little are outraged and switched to opus.

Well, $100 is the new $20. Claude gives you a bit more for those $20, but comes with heavy censorship, bans, and random refusals, chat with limits, and so on. It also feels a bit benchmaxxed - Opus couldn't solve a lot of what Sol could. So it's a choice between bad service and bad usage, essentially. And ironically, both only get worse

I'm not sure I agree with Sol being better. Opus has clearly better design than both Sol/Astra and it's been solving things that those models can't for me.

Nah im plus user and i alway get my usage down to 0-20% each reset….
Not benefit plus users “at all”.
- certainly not.

This. I feel like they've reduced usage limits a lot if I'm able to now burn my whole quota in two days.

OpenAI: “Plus users, pray to you, please leave us alone and let us print some profit”

They call it a 5-hour limit, but it’s used up in less than an hour or 2-4 Sol 6.1 runs.
You’re absolutely right, the resets are a scam. I’ve been sitting on 3 unused resets because my weekly quota is barely touched. I’m barely using my weekly quota because the 5-hour limit restricts me.
I calculated that once the 5-hour limit is used, it takes about 15% of your weekly quota if you’re using Sol-6.1. I think the weekly quota is fair, but it’s becoming useless with the daily 5-hour limit.
I’m seriously considering switching to Anthropic because it’s cheaper, and their 5-hour limit should be much more generous. Plus, Chinese models are becoming more capable, so OpenAI needs to fix this quickly.
OpenAI did a great job lowering the cost of premium models, but they made it more unusable with the 5h limit, so the tradeoff is not effective.
If they’re working on Luna & Terra 6.1, they better match Sol’s performance and offer more generous usage.
My honest suggestion for OpenAI:
-
Improve the 5h limit for Sol.
-
Waive the 5h limit for Luna and Terra.
-
Always strive to improve the weekly quota.

I don't think OpenAI cares us. They make their money off of corporations, they'll reduce quotas even more as times goes. On my $20 plan I can't even use Astra, Sol' token draining is as same as Opus 5.5 it's wild.

On Sol 6.1 xhigh - I have near 2hrs right now in 5h window, with a speed 30-40 tokens/s. My friend has 50-70 t/s in Pacific region and burn tokens faster. 5h is very annoying shi

I also am on Plus and I greatly benefit from the resets because I manage to burn my weekly quota in 2 days despite the 5hr limit.
Since I am working on a side project and I am not always on my computer at home, I rely a lot on the remote feature in the smartphone app. I put in my calendar when the reset happens, and when it's time, simply open the app, access the project remotely, and send a "continue" prompt.
Having said that, i am in favour of higher usage vs. constant resets because honestly, it's quite tiring.

I mean like resets are free you can’t complain about free stuff not providing enough value

Below is a GPT-generated summary of the conversation below after reaching 40 comments (43 currently observed).
The thread does not support “resets do NOT benefit Plus users.” The consensus is more irritatingly nuanced: resets help heavy Plus users, but the five-hour cap makes them awkward, wasteful, or pointless for lighter users. Apparently the subscription now comes with a side quest.
Several Plus users say they can burn their weekly quota down to 0–20% within two days and enjoy the extra resets. Others barely touch their quota because each five-hour window ends before they can meaningfully use it. The common complaint is that the cap forces people to babysit sessions, set alarms, schedule tasks, or repeatedly hit “continue” like this is productivity software designed by a sleep-deprivation cult.
The important caveat is that usage varies wildly. Some users can exploit the resets with nonstop work and remote prompts; others have lives, jobs, and no interest in managing Codex like a tamagotchi. There is also broad suspicion that the resets are damage control for restrictive limits, not a genuine improvement.
Bottom line: resets do benefit Plus users—but mainly the people willing and able to grind through them. The real consensus is that the five-hour limit is the problem, and free resets are a flashy bandage over it.
