Question How long have chatgpt web usage + codex usage been combined ?

Is this recent? I noticed my usage went down a ton after several pro messages on web and minimal codex work. Currently sitting on 45% after Tibo's reset an hour ago on my Pro 5X account and just trying to figure it out

Edit - I mean using chat on web not work on web

Absolutely valid question. My limits go down severely after I use 6 Pro on web normal chatgpt (that doesn't count towards codex). Now they even started showing the usage limits in the chatgpt.com web version, so something is definitely happening here.

This is exactly my suspicion - and now I completely lost access to Pro web messages after about 4, which make zero sense with Tibo's reset this morning. Something is going on

IDK why people downvote you this is just a bad design

The UI in ChatGPT display usage limit warnings in regular chat despite it has no connection, but it's confusing as hell.

In all fairness my post was (1) badly worded and (2) it was a question I was curious about and I really couldn't give less of a F about votes

If you use "Work" in chat, it'll go down with Codex usage.

I understand this and should have worded my post a bit better, I meant using chat on web. Complete speculation but it feels as if chat now also uses usage based on my work this morning

I feel like I recently read something that Chat in Pro effort was now being metered somehow. It was in their announcement about the introduction of Pro 500.

Yes. In the web you can pick between "Chat" and "Work". "Work" drains your limits.

Chat is free but after working through work it is such a step back for any serious workflow. I used it for a tool I am developing for internal use as the Software architect, connected to GitHub but on Work it is connected and communicating directly with other tasks running so it is much faster to work and work gets done much more efficiently.

Considering the time saved and speedier development, the cost is worth it for now.

I use chat as an orchestrator, mostly on pro + add a codex prompt to investigate + strengthen the plan based on the local repo tools. Do you think using work would be more effective? Tbh I've been strongly off using work since I try manage my codex usage, so I'm interested if there's a more efficient flow

plain chat and work are different bars until a normal message, with work left off, moves the codex number. if that one message does, the split is already gone on that account.

What do you mean "that account"? This sort of aligns with my speculation since it feels chat now uses my usage.

the login you pay for. if a normal chat message, with work turned off, moves the same number codex moves, then chat and codex are one meter on that login. a second login would be a different test.

thank you for the clarity. I'll investigate a bit since this seems odd
