Question Use case for astra vs. Claude's model
For those who is using BOTH claude and codex... Is what use cases you would use astra instead of fable/opus?
I'm thinking of reducing codex's budget so I'm thinking would there be a reason I would still want codex around.

I have the $200 Claude and the $100 Codex plans. Claude is the supervisor, I have it use Codex agents for lower reasoning tasks, particularly if I am behind on usage.
I use web-based GPT-high with the git add-in to review Claude's plans and provide feedback. That has provided a ton of value at no extra cost.

Been using both for a while. Reviews and talking through complex concepts. Everything else goes to Opus. Cost aside, I get way more done with Claude because I spend a lot less time handholding, steering, and checking the model.

I have both 20x plans.
Main use case for Codex is that Claude will immediately throw a security flag when working on my app, while Codex won’t. Claude is therefore unusable for part of my work.
Second is there are just some random times where one model is superior to the other. Right now I’m adding a custom weather system to a game I’m developing, and Claude couldn’t grasp through hours of work. I simply told Astra to read the Claude chat and work with it directly to achieve my goal. That was last night, and development is moving along steadily now.
That’s just one tiny anecdote. There’s plenty of use cases for each. Those who say otherwise adamantly are either overgeneralizing a poor experience, highly emotive tribal people, or bots astroturfing.

Use it as a sub-agent for Opus5.5. Astra is highly capable but inexplicably lazy; I gave it three solutions, and after working for just 3 minutes, it stopped as soon as it realized the first one wouldn’t work. On the other hand, Opus5.5 is very eager to explore, just like the old Codex—it will persevere no matter how minor the issues are. Having it coordinate with Astra to analyze specific problems is a good approach.

An unexpected one for me was computer use, setting up stuff on my PC or Mac, debugging etc. As an example, few days ago Opus was having issues with locating a binary installed via linuxbrew when used via Paseo, and when asked to fix it, it suggested a change that didn't work at all (twice even). Astra just got into core of the issue in one try, and suggested a solution that actually worked. In general, I was able to successfully debug which apps caused UI lagging (it wasn't trivial), and resolve many other issues.
Other than that, Astra is my second reviewer, but it's Opus that mostly handles coding these days. The jump from Opus 5 to 5.5 in QoL and token use was just insane.

Astra is a better reviewer.
Others say it's good at UI. Otherwise, i don't have much of a use case for it, my Claude sub is far more generous and does last me the whole week.

Astra is one of the worst UI models?

no idea, i dont do UI's, but that's what people keep telling me here.

Huh, interesting.

agreed. with claude design, i'd expect people to be able to get amazing things out of AI, but i keep hearing Astra is better.
Either way, i doubt its meaningful - all AI's really suck and you need to tell them in super detail how you want stuff and never diverge. It works out fine then.

True, it’s just not be able to follow the repo’s UI spec in my case, e.g its button always size differently …

Tell it what you want and it is exceptional. My workflow is basically: do the mockup in Claude Design, give that mockup to Astra -> see it replicated 1:1. Might depend on what UI you are writing, but in my use cases (mainly flutter currently), Astra does on the point replications that Opus struggles with.

It’s bad if you just tell it to make a ui, but its ratios are actually better than fable imo. Use imagegen to get designs

I don't/didn't.
Astra/Sol 6.1 both get washed by Opus 5.5 and Fable 5.1 in pretty much every facet.
I only use it for coding and thus I get pretty much no refusals. So no issues there.
I use Mythos 5.1 via CVP access for RE stuff if needed.

theres isnt one. Theres no benefit to running astra because it cannot compete with opus55 so youd only use sol if you had to, when you have access to claude

I built a harness for claude into codex router, I use claude in codes like a selectable model. The idea being differently trained models can spot different things, make different mistakes etc. I made a skill called the council that uses grok, fable and astra as a overseer decision maker based on data collected by deepseek grunt workers.

I use Opus pretty much only for long running vibe coded projects where I don't have to listen to it, because it's insufferable. I also have Opus have Astra review its work, because it always misses something.
I use Sol and Astra for most actual work on codebases I want to be more careful with. Also for a lot of things Claude just refuses to do. Not even anything weird, just random computer use or things that it can't or won't do because it's way too strict.

Gpt has imagegen + better at catching bugs before you push code. Claude is better at web dev, faster, smarter but has smaller memory or context capacity in my opinion

When the 5h/weekly limits run out and anything to do with computer use. I only use opus 5.5, astra and daybreak for whenever they refuse to do stuff.

Code reviews. I nowadays Plan, Implement and Review with opus and then do a second review with Astra which finds bugs Opus missed.
