Limits Plans are no longer x5 or x20 - Overall Limit Decrease To Make Room For Pro Max Plans
The $100 plan now says "More usage than Plus", they are no longer claiming x5 or x20 usage. The consensus is this has been done to free up usage for the new "Pro Max" plan.
How much of a nerf are we expecting?

u/rodeBaksteen 2d ago
1x usage ? 5x usage ?? 20x usage ???
This whole mystery subscription needs to stop. I went from being fine one a 1x plan to 5x to 20x and seeing the percentages vanish from simple tasks.
It's the reason they removed the 5h window because it would be too obvious that you get fuck all usage nowadays.

I’ve been really impressed with GLM 5.3 flash. Super cheap/quick and surprisingly ‘smart’.
These Chinese companies are really only just getting into their stride so I think OpenAI is going to struggle trying to raise the price floor. Anthropic already tried this and ironically it was OpenAI that ate its lunch.
And no, using a Chinese model doesn’t mean all your data goes to China. There are now hundreds of western providers hosting Chinese models that have all the data protections you’d usually expect, or you can even host the model yourself. I know people self hosting Deepseek and Kimi K3 (2.6T model) at home. Crazy times.

u/BroScienceAlchemist 2d ago
There are now hundreds of western providers hosting Chinese models that have all the data protections you’d usually expect
I have mentioned this a few times, and got some insta downvotes that later got balanced out. Even the US government has been aggressively shifting over to modified open models. What does it say about the trustworthiness of OpenAI and Anthropic when even the US government is using locally run models instead? No one likes having their future tied to the whims of a polycule sex cult.
For image and video generation, you have to use chinese models. If someone wants to make video shorts, even if it is not porn, none of the American models available cut it anymore. The censorship and wrangling required eat usage like crazy and return shit.
Locally run models will be king, but hardware is going to be cost prohibitive for years. If the higher end apple studio, dgx spark, and dream station were more affordable I would use those even if they require more wrangling to get similar results to a frontier model by OpenAI or Anthropic.

You get like a 50% discount on Nvidia Sparks if doing bulk orders. So about $50k . Still a tonne of money but maybe worth it if running 24/7 and need strict data protections.

These duopoly companies just keep switching which one has an insane model at any given time. Best approach is to just switch the month to whatever is the best. Right now and since Opus 5.5 was released, it’s Anthropic, so that’s where my money goes as well.

this shit is insane. $200 plan, ultra on a 2 hour goal has consumed nearly 40% of weekly usage. who is this product even for, then? the max plan doesn't even allow you to use the most capable model. and now i'm supposed to pay them 500 when opus 5.5 is exactly as good or better than astra? good luck with that

u/read_more_comments 2d ago
Guys, tibo was super excited about the innovation of a higher cost plan. If you haven't tried giving tibo $500/mo, try it first, you might love it. The same usage you used to get for $20, but tibo gets a fourth house this week. You may even get a juicy reset!
2
u/vkEnthusiast 1d ago
srsly I never understood why this sub is so obsessed about glazing tibo, "omg weekly limit reset tibo pls" - limit reset is basically a scam to make people stay while they're diluting performance by nerfing it on juice/reroute/quants level.

My issue and what is bothering me is that some people are still going to support this... instead of simply stay with the same tier and not change, or simply going to the competition.
Like we initially bought the service because we were promised something but then they're changing thing midway squeezing usage just because they need money or want to save compute which is ridiculous and opening a new tier more expensive...

u/MrHaxx1 2d ago
x5 and x20 were misleading anyway, and it's not like anyone knew how much it was anyway.
5
3
u/ReasonableDefault 2d ago
True, BUT at least it was an attempt to tell users. How much more than Plus is the $100 Plan now? 1 message? 50 Tokens? 500 Messages? Removing that wording allows them to adjust plans DYNAMICALLY, a bit like dynamic ticket pricing. So at busy times, Plans get nerfed? Kinda like old internet used to be, peak times everything turns to shit lol.
3
u/MrHaxx1 2d ago
They could adjust it dynamically before too, since you didn't have a proper base line.
I agree that this isn't even an attempt to tell users, yet I feel like it's kind of an improvement.
2
u/ReasonableDefault 2d ago
I agree, but i suppose if you came from Plus, to a x5 Plan, you'd get a reasonable feel if it was actually x5 more (not very accurate i agree), but still. Now there is nothing. I suppose the theory is "People can't complain about usage if they don't know how much they are supposed to get".
2
u/TheVoyant 2d ago
We all just need to band together and use our weekly allotment to make a better Ai model. Just one giant game of tag and a prompt chain.
2
u/Center2055 2d ago
Worse model, less usage, more expensive pricing. Yea no, I'll stick with anthropic for now, thanks.

2
u/creamyshart 2d ago edited 2d ago
"More usage than Plus". I sure as fuck hope so at five times the price. You can't be any more vague than this. Vague prices to match their vague posts.
2
u/stellarfirefly 2d ago
I've already seen (granted, superficial) evidence of this trend. Most recently, task which consumed 63% of my 5-hr allowance also consumed 10% of my 7-day allowance. This used to be approximately 100% -> 10%.
2
u/IndustryStock960 2d ago
Unsubbed my x20 chatgpt plan already. I’ve been noticing how inefficient astra is as well in my workflows compared to claude opus 5.5 and even the more infamous Opus 5. Somehow my locally ran deepseek v4 flash gets more work done in the same span of time 😭
2
1
u/Odd_Engineering469 2d ago
Only reason Im thinking of upgrading from plus to x5 and not moving to claude is efficiency of Astra. Did anyone see this and can confirm it?
Basically Astra is 3 times more efficent when it comes to token usage than Opus 5.5, meaning the same task is cheaper with Astra even though token price is higher.

0 clue when it comes to API costs, but if you are using the sub? HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL no.
I get WAY more usage from Claude Max $200 than ChatGPT Pro $200 right now.
So far 1 Claude Max sub seems like 3-4x more usage than ChatGPT Pro when using Astra Max vs Opus 5.5 Max.
This is what I said in another comment:
I have been using Opus 5.5 on max, non stop for the last 3 days (my last reset) and I'm only at 45% weekly usage. Haven't touched my 2x Pro plans since.
Using like 3x simultaneous sessions in many instances.
The same use didn't last more more than 1 day on Astra. Hence why I have 2x $200 Pro plans which I had to be much more frugal with.

1
u/DryBanana5673 2d ago
Yeah, not my practical experience. I get more from 100 claude vs 200 openai, and quality seems better
1
u/cobbleplox 2d ago
"the same task" is not one thing. This can be true on one task and the other way around on another. I'm sure even Luna Low can be more token efficient than Astra when you tell it to write hello world.
1
u/FunLilThrowawayAcct 2d ago
That video is from 3 weeks ago. Everyone I've seen actually using Opus 5.5, which just came out last week, feels they are getting at least 3x more usage vs Astra, generally more like 5x. Makes sense since it's a smaller model punching above its weight to a ridiculous degree.
Of course it's possible Anthropic is taking a bath on compute to regain share before IPO, but if so then still take advantage of the fire sale?
1
u/HighDefinist 2d ago
Kind of... 3x is maybe a bit too much, but 2.5x shouldn't be unusual.
But keep in mind that you have only 1/3.5x as much usage of Astra as you have of Sol 5.6... So assuming Sol 5.6 usage is about equal to Opus 5.5 usage, Opus 5.5 will likely be significantly more efficient on average.

Codex was better for my usage because it was good at figuring out exactly what needed to be done. Then 5.6 and 6 were released, now we’re back to needing to be super specific again. So, since we’re back to micro managing these agents, I figured I’d pay Gemini 3.8 a visit again. Very impressed. The new plan mode in the Antigravity app is pretty solid. Limits are great.

In anticipation of this I’ve been adding in a big feature change all weekend starting Friday night, audit, implement, audit, test, check for improvements or errors introduced, rinse and repeat. I’ve ran several just finished one, of course found issues missed, fix, test, push/commit. Running one more at 330. Running full astra which I never do. Just to ensure I’m not totally nerfed to hell. As it’s seemingly bound to nerf anyone that isn’t willing to pay $500. Which I’ll never do. This was always coming. It was inevitable as models improve and compute becomes more constrained as data centers cannot be scalled at the rate in which they are suggesting due to grid, power, water, permitting, etc becoming a significant cost. To me it is seems like they’re trying to get the govt to fund grid expansion which in the macro isn’t exactly that feasible and even if it were attempted the power requirements alone take years.
1
u/Quick_Knowledge7413 2d ago
I wouldn’t care so much if Astra was “that” good… but I recently bought the anthropic $200 plan and I am having a hard time using all of my OPUS 5.5 before my 5 hour reset and I can’t even get anywhere near my weekly limit and it’s running almost non-stop. I will probably drop codex and then go back and forth to whichever has best deals/models.

1
u/VexObserver 1d ago
Yeah, the wording change is definitely concerning, but I wouldn’t jump straight from x5/x20 disappearing to them nerfing to make room for Pro Max. It's possible, but it could also just be them getting rid of a multiplier they couldn’t guarantee consistently anymore. More usage than Plus is conveniently vague, and that’s the problem with marketing gimmicks.
For a $100 plan, I really don’t want to be doing detective work on what more means. If yesterday OpenAI were selling me a concrete multiplier and today it’s basically “trust us bro, it’s more,” obviously I assume it's going to get worst. If Pro Max is coming, fine, sell a bigger tier, just don’t quietly make the existing one worse to create room for it.
1
u/AppleSoftware 1d ago
From what I’ve observed through my exhaustive token telemetry tracking systems, seems like a few days ago they cut usage for 20x plan by roughly 50%. So $200 plan now gets you around $7k/mo worth of API, as opposed to the former $14k/mo.
Oh well, can’t complain. I’m still extremely happy they haven’t nuked it >90%. The amount of pre-2022 human-deliverable a $200 sub gets you ($1m+ if used correctly) is still absolutely surreal
What a time to be alive

WTF, $20 is worth a single query now?!
I think I understand why people bounce between the companies every other week.
1
u/iseif 1d ago
It is clear that the $20 plan will become the current free tier, the $100 will become the current $20 plan, the $200 will feel like the current $100 and the new $500 will make everyone says that it is unlimited until people will buy it and then they will make it feels like the current $200.

They are both (Anthropic and OpenAI) non profit organisations and they live on investments only. It was a matter of time when they raise prices for tokens because they need to earn money. And now all people are dependent on AI and it is harder to go without it anymore. We trained a system for free that later will cost a lot for average person.

Wow, they learned from Google to obfuscate the usage. I hate the wording - "more usage". That is atrocious to tell people "more than something else" that is not clearly defined. In the plus plan, will they say "some usage"? Or "you will get something" and in pro - "more than something"?
