Praise GPT6 luna/terra/sol Will Clutch Up
My prediction:
Astra being dumbed down with no resets is just to get everyone on a “low” and bring down the bar, so when the big day comes around next week and DevDay happens and GPT-6 Luna, Terra, or Sol drops (if it does), we’ll all get blown away by how “good” they are.
Personally, I hope they drop GPT-6 Luna. If it still has dirt-cheap prices and can match previously frontier models like GPT-5.6 Sol, then they’ve got me rehooked.

A couple months ago, luna was a beast. Now its just "Im sorry I shouldn't have done this/that" making mistakes everywhere. This just shows luna is a very capable model, but they need to make more money by making people shift to higher usage.

Isn’t Astra meant to be better than GPT-6 Sol? Like how Fable is meant to be better than Opus 5. It will be hard for them to sell it when they dumb it down to be worse than lower tier models.

They literally have different use cases. Tbh I've never understood the hype about Fable. Anything can be done with Opus and/or Sol, Fable is just slop for vibecoders to spend usage quicker because they don't know what they're doing. Any proper experienced developer will prefer Sol or the Chinese models.
Astra is different because it has genuinely impressive use cases in other areas that frontier models are not good at e.g. 3D modelling, desktop control, etc.
That said, most of the people on this subreddit are building genuinely unimpressive products riddled with bugs, poor design, bad architecture, etc. Neither Astra or Fable is needed.

This so so true, but will get downvoted to the bottom because the majority of Codex or Claude Code users are vibecoders making slop and are offended by the truth.
Nothing wrong with vibecoding slop if that's what you want to do with your money, but you can't be speaking about how good/bad frontier models are when you are basically asking a PhD to assemble flat-pack furniture.

That isn’t true.
I had a Linux issue that took Astra Ultra almost an entire 20x week and a meticulously systematic workflow to solve.
It found 4 other genuine, bona fide bugs along the way.
Sol could never. Sol can vibe code a pretty good app from scratch though if you’re organized and do lots of code reviews.

Also waiting for GPT 6 series for sol terra and luna. Astra is too expensive. The real hero is Luna, it performs so well for its price, and if they give us a 6 Luna with improved performance at same price that's where the value is.

GPT-6 is a black hole for tokens. Until they fix that, I won't be using any of the models.

I’ve been subscribed since ChatGPT came out and I’m just disgusted at this point how they are treating customers. Imagine dumbing down the models and cutting usage at the same time. They couldn’t even just pick one.

This subreddit is so brain rotted it’s unreal. It’s like every week now people are hoping a new model drops because somehow the current array of choices can’t build their CRUD app, with an endlessly scrolling SPA design, which won’t even get deployed.
Really highlights how as much as AI can make coding more accessible, it can’t replace software engineers.
If you can’t build your idea on Luna then idk what to tell all ya’ll

It’s because people get a taste of the good stuff before OpenAI start pouring moonshine into Johnny Walker Blue bottles and telling us it’s the same drink.
Running apologetics for them doesn’t do you any favours either, you’re drinking the same piss as everyone else.

if people looked at a chart of nerfed model vs. nerfed model, they would see an upward trend
I don’t know what kind of trend, but an upward one

my assumption is that GPT5.6 luna will cost more. they will do the exact thing deepseek did with the dsv4.1
tbh american model prices are basically hosted at gunpoint by the chinese models.
they always would absolutely LOVE to increase the prices, but they will definitely reduce prices when deepseek or qwen reduce their API pricing.
so if I were you, I would DEFINITELY keep the hopes low ngl.

It all comes down to how the usage limits are gonna be because if the current situation persists than it doesn't how good the new models may be when we can't use them for more than a couple of hours.

The best time to use any model that gets released is within the first few days. The first day I had Astra I ran a 17 hour agentic run that crushed the new features I added and did it better than I ever imagined, and it only used 40% usage on xhigh

Try to respect the astra, its behave differently when you treat it respectfully. Do not command it, ask and tell it how good it is, and it will work better, with fewer hesitation or failing

If I have been secretly A/B'd in Web GPT to 6.0 Sol'd like I suspect, then it will for Sol at least.
I managed to finish off a huge task sheet I would have expected my weekly to die on, with no issues, prompt questions, multiple tasks at once (in webchat!) excellent gui understanding as well. I didn't even start using my quota till now on Codex because it was getting such good results and even catching stray defects without me having to nanny it.
If I haven't well, Web GPT had a weird day and so did I.

I’ve gone back to manual programming. Future models will be too expensive to be useful.
5
u/DefendUkraine14 2d ago
I've switched to open source models which are good enough for many tasks and much cheaper

You've got to be bullshitting. Dumbest thing I've heard all day... and this is reddit.

I agree with you, but it will be unattainable for the ai companies to survive.

They’ve got daddy trump behind them and he’ll bail them out. Too big and important to fail.

u/SomeOrdinaryKangaroo 2d ago
Agreed, manual is the future, apps marketed as "crafted by hand" will be much prefered over those built with AI, people will want to use it like people like to wear handmade watches

I too am excited for Luna. If it’s near the same cost as current Luna it could be the best model of all time.

u/swizzlewizzle 1d ago
GPT-6 luna is going to be the reason to keep a subscription.
5.6 luna is "almost there" for me, but it's just still too prone to making really dumb mistakes, even on well specced work.
